@missjuli:  I LOVE cake but I would never (even as a joke) say that to a bride or someone hosting an event. If you don’t like it, don’t eat it. Or heck, bake your own cake and eat it all before you go to the wedding. 🙂 lol

I’m planning on serving mini pies and I don’t care who doesn’t like it!

I’m probably not having a cake to serve, just one to cut. I got 3 cakes for my birthday this year and didn’t eat one piece… I uaually just go for the ice cream. I’m not much a cake person and neither is my fiance. We’re having a smore’s bar and probably leaving it at that because I think as long as there is dessert, then whatever!

@mepayne:  +1 this.

I think wedding cake is a staple for a wedding.. and you don’t have to spend THOUSANDS to get a pretty/good tasting cake. I think some brides go over the top. There are cheaper alternatives to wedding cake, your local grocer can provide you with a nice cake for a decent price. It won’t be fondant, but it’ll be tasty!

That being said, if there was no cake, I would be disapointed, but I wouldn’t say anything… i’d just keep it to myself, or if someone else brought it up, agree.

I don’t think it’s rude not to serve cake, but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t be disappointed as a guest.

Now, that said, there’s definitely wide variation in the quality of cake.  One of the places we went for a tasting, the cake tasted like you just bought a box of mix at the grocery store.  Totally disappointing.  But a good cake with quality buttercream frosting is just magical.

@missjuli:  Sounds good.  Utlimately while cake is a standard, no one’s life is going to end if it’s not there.  I’m a fan of cake, but I’m also a fan of cupcakes, pie, pudding, cookies, and pretty much any other baked, cooked, or mixed dessert item with sugar.

And really, your guests will probably be a lot more pleased with GOOD tasting cupcakes rather than MEH tasting cake.

I could totally see myself putting something like what your Uncle put on facebook as a joke. Are you sure he was really being serious about it?

Im serving cake because I LOVE CAKE. However I’m not serving alcohol, dancing, or bread with gluten. Its our wedding not theirs if guests dont like it oh my damn its not their wedding. I will provide alternate entertainment for the dancing, and gluten free bread.
