so we are now 3 weeks out from our honeymoon…..anddddd, I still don’t have my passport!
rewind 7 weeks ago, FI & I made a split decision to go away on our HM rather than a few hours away to the beach. SO 5 almost 6 weeks ago, on a Friday, I went to the post office to file for my passport, blah blah blah. so the lady said my birth certificate didn’t have a issue date but said to send it anyways and I’ll here in 2 weeks if it’s not accepted. Should I have listened? OH HELL NO! I got my new birth certificate THAT Monday (left with it in my hands and all) I called their information center I don’t even know how many times, and nobody could ever help me or give me an answer!
So Saturday (now 5 weeks from submitting) I get a letter that it wasn’t approved due to not having a raised seal (absolutely nothing about not having an issue date)! So now, I’ve called them asking if I can go to the center in Philadelphia to get one, they told me I might have to pay the $110 AGAIN because it’s a different center and it’s at their disgretion whether or not I have to pay again. so I asked if there was a way I could call ahead of time to ask and she said no, there was no way to contact them at all..SERIOUSLY!
I had to pay $73 to get them to expedite my passport and the shipping plus pay $20 to have it over-nighted to NOLA!
so fustrating but needless to say, at this point, I’ll just swim to punta cana! 🙂

Ugh. That stinks! At this point though, I’d do whatever I had to do (and pay whatever I had to pay) to get my dang passport. It’s a hassle and a huge frustration now, but it’ll be so worth it when you hit the beach in Punta Cana.
Good luck working it all out!

crazy passport. i hope you are able to resolve your situation. but pay whatever you need to pay and worry about trying to get reimbursed for additional fees later.
i needed a passport when all that crazy passport stuff was going on.
with plenty of time i went to my local passport office to get everything done, i even paid the expedition fee to get a tracking number, etc.
i received confirmation that my passport arrived in the Philly office but they had no record of receiving it after weeks and weeks went by.
finally i was able to talk to a live person and they told me there was such a back up that they only thing that could be done was 2 weeks before my trip get in line at the Philly office and hope i get in before they close. Philly is a 2.5 hour drive (DC was closer but they told me it had to be Philly).
my dad took me very early in the morning and we stood in line for ever.
in the end, i was able to get everything reimbursed that i paid before i went to the philly office and had to pay their fees.
now 7ish years later, my childhood passport that i had to mail in to renew get a new passport still hasn’t turned up.
