@MissCalifornia: Just wanted to wish you good luck! I remember never practicing for parallel parking until the morning of my test. My ex’s father took the liberty to practice with me. I hated it and never wanted to do it again. I was shocked I passed the first time. Thankfully I haven’t been in a situation to have to parallel park. I will walk blocks before I do so. Hahaha.
I haaaated driving and barely ever wanted to practice–I spent like all of high school mooching rides off people! But I got my license when I was 18, the summer after hs graduation– I was moving to NYC for college and knew it was then or never! I have only driven like a handful of times since, mostly during the summers when I was staying with my parents, but I still hate it! dh and I even co-owned a car togehter for a year and a half, and I drove it once, lol
good luck with the test! you can do it 🙂
ooooh good luck!!!! You will ace this 🙂
@Rouquine: Yeah, I know I’ll probably never do it again because it’s so annoying (plus the car I’ve been using to do it is tiiiiiiny whereas Fiance and I will be sharing a huge minivan) – but I’m glad I wasn’t terrible at it!
@finnaroo: Our goal is to move to Boston or NYC in the next year, so I’m hoping to not have to put these skills to much use but it’ll def be handy when I want to go visit my family since they live in Ohio.
Thank you both for the well wishes (:
I’m twenty-two and I don’t have my license yet either. I took driver- ed in high school and everything, (and passed) but for some reason I just never bothered getting it. I was actually down at the DMV just last week though, and now I’ve got my drivers permit renewed so I can start practising driving again (legally.) I hope to have my license by my birthday … which is in late June!
Good luck on your test, you’ll do great!!
I didn’t mine until I was 24! 🙂 Darling Husband and I started dating when I was 18, and I just didn’t really need it. The longer I waited, the more scared I got. I practiced with him and passed on my first try!
My best advice is to try your hardest to relax. I made a few silly mistakes starting out during the test, but the officer was really nice and told me I was doing great and not to stress.
You’ll do fantastic! Best of luck!
To make you all feel better I’m almost 30 and I still haven’t gotten my license, and I don’t have the excuse of living in a big city like most of you do! It’s so embarassing, but I have to get it this summer, I’ve renewed my permit 3 times- so sad, haha.
Good luck to you!
You’ll do great! I was late to the party too! I got mine a couple days shy of my 20th birthday.
When I was 15 my mom had me drive her car on a country road and she told me pull over the left a car go by and I got the car high centered in a ditch, so after that I was scared to drive and I didn’t again until I was 19 and I think I drove for the first time and then got my license in like a 4 month span, it happend pretty quick. And I failed the first time because I hit a curb when I parked. Lame.
coming from a driver examiner – WE ARE PPL TOO!! we arent out to get the world..so relax…be cautious…and BREATHE!
I’m going to be doing a road test for California this summer. I’m as nervous as all get out and I’ve been driving for years. I threw up before my first driving test when I was a teenager. I totally understand your nerves!
Having the driving lesson right before really helped, because I got a chance to correct the mistakes I was making yesterday. I did let nerves get the best of me for a moment on the test – during the parallel park I forgot one of the steps I’d been taught and blanked for a moment, hit by a wall of blind panic. But I sorted myself out and parked excellently.
I was docked 15 points for “poor judgement at intersections” and a wide right turn, but nonetheless I passed (and it’s 30 points to fail in NY so I didn’t do too badly either). The examiner was a bit stone-faced, but not unpleasant.
Ahhh I’m so happy, now I’m trying to decide which Kate Spade wallet to buy as my reward.
Thanks to everyone for your words of advice, commiseration and well wishes!
