What’s the weirdest or grossest thing that’s happened at a consultation?

Do alteration prices vary greatly among seamstresses in the same area? I got a quote from the salon I bought my dress from (she’s an independent seamstress they ‘contract’) for almost $1,000 for some changes I wanted to make to the back. I was curious if getting quotes from other local seamstresses would yield widely different results or if I’d basically get the same quotes from everyone.

What are the most universally flattering dress styles?

What dress trends do you love? Which ones are you over?

I bought my dress from BHLDN, which means that they don’t do any alterations. It’s the Selah dress, if that’s helpful: https://www.bhldn.com/product/selah-gown. They only had one size left so I bought it even though it was going to be a little tight. It zips and I can breathe but it’s really tight in my rib cage area. Would a professional tailor be able to let it out, like maybe an inch?

Also, in addition to possibly letting it out, it needs to be hemmed and the little cap sleeves need to be taken in slightly (they keep falling off my shoulders). Any idea what this will cost? I am on a tight budget. Is it worth going with the best/most recommended tailor even if they are more expensive?

How much of a discount can you really get? I had a £300 veil “thrown in”. I didn’t ask, nor did I hesitate over the cost. So just wondered if there was a discount available had I asked.

Not the best photo I realize, but is there any way to keep the buttons on the top from pulling? (You can see the elastic loops and the buttons are slightly crooked because of this)

It is an illusion back and the dress is strapless. The illusion paneling is not too tight but has to be snug to stay up. The buttons have elastic loops.

Any suggestions would be great! 🙂

bc2018 :  Yikes! That’s more than I paid for the dress.
