At first I was going to say that doesn’t sound too bad, then I realized that you said it’s for the shower and not the wedding. Is she making you purchase a sun dress and matching items? Or are you allowed to wear something you already have?

@rozzy:  I’ve never heard of a bride telling her bridesmaids what to wear to the shower before. I have the same question as PP, is she asking you to buy outfits specifically for the shower?

No. It sounds like a theme shower. I’ve heard worse.

If she’s asking like “Could you guys wear x, y and z out of your closet for the shower?” and asked nicely I wouldn’t think much of it.

Now if she’s asking/demanding that you do it and you have to buy matching stuff…..then that’s going too far.

@rozzy:  Not too far – don’t you already own these things or at least most of them? If not, all can be had for cheap at Target.

I’ve heard of plenty of showers that have some sort of “theme”… and very often it involves wearing sundresses and sunhats.

@rozzy:  Ugh. I mean, it sounds cute, but I hate when people basically force someone to wear certain clothing.

I’ve heard of this before – “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” wedding shower theme someone forced on my friends.

A friend of mine did this for her shower and requested EVERYONE wear sundresses, hats and sandals. We all had sundresses and sandals in our closets. I can’t think of a woman that doesn’t. For those who didn’t have hats? I bought a bunch from the dollar store. They were theirs to keep. And they were CUTE. Big floppy dress hats.

It doesn’t matter if  you own it or not – the bride does NOT tell you what to wear for the shower.  yes, you have a bridezilla.

Hmm.  Well, I can’t say I’m a big fan of “theme showers” that involve using people as props.  But that’s just me.  I suppose if a dear friend asked me nicely and offered cocktails to sweeten the deal I may be pursuaded to wear a sunhat.

I think the true verdict of “bridezilla” depends on how she would react if you politely declined her request…..if this is a “demand” then yes, bridezilla.  If this is a “request”….mmm, maybe bridezilla-ish but not full blown (yet).

ETA: I don’t think it has anything to do with whether or not the guests already have these items, or whether they can be bought cheaply.  It’s about the feeling of entitlement to ask or demand your guests to wear a costume.  No….you (ie. the bride in question) are not P. Diddy/Puff Daddy/whateverhegoesbynow.  Sorry.
