So, my office has doubled in size since I started, and I was starting to kind of getting worried about work place invitee etiquette, only because, even though we doubled in size … we are still a small office (8 people) … factor in some significant others, and I was looking at 14 people, when I first got engaged and gave numbers I was only thinking 6.
But I realized, that some people just really don’t like weddings but feel obligated by an invite, so I started casually mentioning weddings and asking if in general the person liked weddings. And discovered, that a good chunk of co workers are happy that they are past the wedding stage of their friends and hope not to be invited to anymore, and would definitely not take offence to not being invited to mine.
Which has solved my numbers woe. So for those stressing about work invites, some people might actually be relieved to let you know that’d they’d rather not go, but would feel obligated if they got an invitation (for the same reason, they don’t want to hurt your feelings by saying no).
