No, you will not keep that! Nor that! Especially not that! Okay, you can keep that one, but not this one.

That help? 😀

I know what you mean. I’m always saying “But I can USE this for a future project!” And then the future project never comes. It sounds like your making progress, though!

@bunting:Me toooooo!

I move a lot. My rule is if I can pack it in an organized manner, I get to keep it (i.e. labeled glass jar of buttons). If I start throwing crap in a box–it’s just that, crap and it goes in the trash–I do not get to keep it.  It also makes unpacking less painful.

That’s a great philosophy. I still have a few crap-in-a-boxes stashed away here and there, never touched since moving here over a year ago. I think it’s time to trash them.

oh, gosh, me too!

BUT… EVERY time I’m like “I totally don’t need this anymore, I’ll pitch it…” the NEXT place I move to I totally want it back!

(happened in the past couple years with comfy slippers and then one of those pillows with a hard top that you can put your laptop on.)

so, I guess I will just have to lug around a bunch of semi-junk.

I’ve seen like a list of questions that you’re supposed to ask yourself to determine if you should keep it… I just can’t remember what they are. Like, “have you used this in the past year? Does it have financial value?” or something like that.

OMG have you seen that show Downsized?  it takes place here in Az… Anthem AZ actually which is rather esclusive…

Here is what I don’t get about the show, if you have seen it, they down sized into a house that MOST People would have upsized to…

when I think downsize, I think of what my husband and I have been through…  3 years ago, we lost a house due to forclosure…

then we moved into a house with a 2 year lease, after that 2 year lease, we were going to lease to purchase…  4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 master bathroom walk in closets, living room, family room, den, big beautiful kitchen, generous 2 car garage, rv gate, pool (and a bunch of toys to put in the Rv gate and the garage.. boats, olhausen pool table, tornado foosball table, rv, quads and other recreational vehicles), fireplace, 1/4 acre lot really… beautiful home.  I also had developed quite a vintage furniture collection.  I love vintage furniture.

Then hubbie got laid off…

one by one things dissapeared, (sold)  till we were down to boxes.  only thing left was our bedroom furniture (my youngest sons bed at this time was broken), our clothes, video games, etc…

we sold everything worth of value, and donated alot of things then….

we ended up moving in with my mother in law, still had to store stuff in her tuff shed…

moved out of there into a 2 bedroom/1ba apartment…  so got rid of some more stuff…  clothes, electornics, etc… but there was still a storage room, so we still had alot of “junk” for lack of a better phrase

then we moved into a 2 bedroom house, where we downsized even more….  got rid of alot of cables, alot mroe clothes, books, shoes, rugs, furniture, etc…

now, we just moved into this 3 bedroom, 1 bath house.  we love it here, the kitchen is great, the house has good energy.  It has 2 MASSIVE storage rooms and the good news is, there is NOTHING really to put in there.

Purging is good for the soul.  You find out really where your priorities are.  Its pretty amazing.

I have less than I have ever had in about the last 25 years, but I am the happiest I have ever been also.

sometimes things are a blessing in disguise:)  Yo uwill be fine…  make a split decision… you will be surprised.  I think the hardest part is getting started… but you can do it:)  YAY On the new place!!!!

I really think, for me, and this is silly, but it was my shoes!!! aaaaaaaaaa

I dont know for sure but I think on that show they are only renting (not that it matters I dont see how they can aford rent) I guess they might have deal on rent plus you know money from the network. One thing that gets me is ok your in serious trouble but you have a giant rock on your finger as hard as it I would have to think about giving that up at a time like this

@miss sparkly cat:  ahhh yes cat, you see my point!!!!  so downsized, the show, is really stupid!  it does not show “downsizing” as they really do have lots of material posessions.  Their kids wear designer clothes.

Yes, they are renting, but houses in anthem to rent are probably over 2k a month.   (not sure if you are in AZ or not)  you may be able to find one at 1,500.  but for that size, i doubt its lower than 2k.  that is ALOT Of effin money, to me…

and  I really wish I could have gotten on that show, so they could see what “downsizing” is all about.  I do feel liberated without all my “stuff” though.  but I honestly do not think that is an accurate representation of what is going on in the world today.
