@Penelopeee:  How can my FH optimize his application for Taleo/other online recruitment software? He has applied for a multitude of jobs (literally dozens) that he is certainly qualified for, and gets rejection emails 30 minutes after sending in an application. Whenever his CV & portfolio go directly to a person through an email address, he ALWAYS gets an interview. Unfortunately, all the places he would consider leaving his current position for use Taleo to screen applicants.

@Penelopeee:  Random question but I was arguing with a friend about what they should say at an interview after being let go (“without cause”). She said she can say she was laid off but that seems iffy to me… I understand that it was more of a bad fit between her and the manager instead of misconduct, and she was given severance, so the company somewhat acknowledged the fit issues, but will anyone ever find out (would a company clarify if asked?)?

I asked a question a few weeks ago (#38) – if you have any insight I’d appreciate it!  Thanks!

Are we still playing?!

I was hired and signed a job description in July 2011. I learned a great deal from my previous manager and in March 2012 he moved on and i got a new manager. My new manager wants to amend my job description and wants me to sign off on it–Saying i am to be held accountable for these items. Most of the items are actually HIS job items but i do them all. Can i be FORCED To sign the job description? They haven’t offered a dime in increase but my job description went from 1/2 a page to 5 pages! If i don’t sign it can i be held accountable ?

@Penelopeee:  Thank you for your insight! He may be disqualified for some qualification that’s not listed in the posting perhaps. He has followed up with a person after getting dinged by the software a few times and has gotten interviews in those cases.

I just posted a thread about this, but maybe you have an answer!

Just curious if anyone has experience with this…

I accepted a written job offer and agreed to start the new position in 2 weeks. The hiring manager called me to confirm this, and then asked that I schedule a drug test (to be expected) and then asked for 3 references that they could call.

Is it weird to do the reference checks after they already extended me an offer? This company has a strict/unique hiring process, and even though I have nothing to worry about regarding my references, it still seems unusual to me.

In my experience as an applicant and as the person doing the hiring, reference checks are usually done before the offer is extended.
