So I finally get to move into my house tomorrow!!! After a month of fixing it up. I’m so excited =) . Unfortuantly Fiance and I aren’t going to be living together before we get married (5 more months)…but his parents house is 3 miles away. So I guess that’s not too bad.
I’ll see him more than I used to =)
Did I mention… I JUST started packing at 11pm. I’m supoosed to go pick up my truck tomorrow at 1pm. I have enough stuff to fill a nice sized apartment lol
What kind of packer are you ladies?

@cupcakebride2013: your kind of packing would stress me out. i am a very organized packer. things would be ready for the movers days beforehand.
good luck with your move. it’ll be very exciting for you.

I couldn’t physically pack up my stuff quickly enough to get it all done in 12 hours. I’m sure I’ll be up late the night before getting some stuff ready though.

I cant sit there and stay focused. I get distracted easily. So if i’m on a time crunch I HAVE TO stay on task. Also I do really well working late at night, I tend to be more focused as well.
I’ve moved once a year for the past four years… it’s worked so far lol. Except last year. My sister was SOOO mad… I hadn’t gotten everything done for some reason (I can’t remember) and she had to help me quickly pack it all up. So I’m determined to have it done before she gets here… I have like 3 or 4 hrs work left (I think)

I’m a procrastinator, so when my husband and I knew we were going to be moving out of our apartment, I started to pack the things we didn’t use or need all that often, and tried to spend a day packing each week before moving out (about a month and a half before we could move into our house). Of course there were still things that were packed last minute, but for the most part it was all done by the time my parents showed up to help!
Packing for vacation, however, I usually do the day before. I do make a list of what I’ll need a week or so beforehand, and use that to make sure to get all of my things rounded up when I’m ready to pack.

Well when going away for trips I almost always pack the night before, unless I’m off the day of travel and I have an afternoon/evening flight. But if I’m working and leaving after work, etc. then I have to pack the evening before or when else would I do it? My husband and I are moving out of state on July 30. We have not started packing yet! My mom is also moving and she certainly has (she started in May), but we only have a one bedroom and the moving company will be packing up all of our china and crystal, which is really the big ticket items that I am stressed about moving. For that type of packing, I’ll probably really start going at it next week.

for trips, this is my plan of attack- i make a list the week before, then i do laundry, then i pack. i’m usually packed mostly by the day before we leave.
for moving, it’s another story. last time i moved apartments, i packed the day i was moving. mhm. loads of fun.

We had overlapping leases, so a month to get everything packed and moved to our new apartment. Finished moving all the stuff out yesterday, the absolute last day we could still be in the old one. It is a mess I wont be repeating because how awful everything got packed I can’t find anything now.

@mypinkshoes: +1 I would have a freaking panic attack if I left my whole house to pack in half a day.
When we move, I start about a month before. I’ll begin with the garage and storage-stuff that doesn’t get much use- and pack a box or two every day, then I’ll work my way towards the stuff that’s used more regularly. Usually I just have a few days of outfits and toiletries in a suitcase, and the coffee and coffee machine still out by 2-3 days before the move. We order in, use disposable utensils and plates and everything is packed and cleaned no less than 24 hrs before the movers get there and we’ll spend the last night in a hotel since we send the furniture along first normally. It’s easier on me this way so there’s no stress or rush, and if I get too busy to pack for a couple of days, I know I still have plenty of buffer time. 🙂

- Wedding: October 2011 - Bed & Breakfast
Well the last time we moved I was packing a 4 bedroom house. So there’s no way I could have left that until the last moment. I had about 40% of the house packed weeks before moving, with a lot of purging along the way. I planned to pack the remaining 60% in the week leading up to the move…. and then I broke my foot 4 days before the move. Do you know how hard it is to pack a house… with stairs… with a newly broken foot? I wouldn’t recommend it. Thanks goodness for Mr. LK’s Gramma, who came over to help me one day. And thank goodness for a fantastic moving crew. Those guys had us loaded, moved, and unloaded in less than 9 hours. It’s now been more than a year, and I still have a few boxes to unpack. My lack of motivation is pathetic.

@colorofmyheart: seems like we’re a lot alike lol. The FIRST time i moved out of my parents I was so excited that I was packed like a month before but still had some stuff I had to pack the day before. After that first experience… hello midnight packing/morning of packing lol.
@lovekiss: If it makes you feel better I’ve been at my current place for over a year and still had lik 4 boxes unpacked. =) lol Just had no motivation to unpack them. I should probably sell what’s in it since I hadn’t used it and apparently didn’t miss it lol.
I’m finishing up laundry now, and have pretty much everything packed except my shower/bathroom stuff. I haven’t taken apart my bed yet or moved my cats stuff yet. I think i’m gonna take that with me in the car later tonight. . . I dont wanna have to worry bout our cats getting out or them locked in a room for the whole day.

I usually have to pack early because I end up having short windows to move everything. Although the last time we moved, I procrastinated because I was watching the NCAA basketball tournament instead of packing. We were scrambling to pack things the next day as the movers arrived, but it was still worth it. 🙂

I prefer to pack the suitcases and load the car the night before, so that you can just shower, change, eat, and run without thinking if you missed something.

I’m definitely a last minute packer. One time I moved halfway across the country and had to be packed up 5 days before I left so the movers could take the stuff (I was left later to get there around the same time), it was a real struggle! On the other hand, after a bad breakup (coincidentally the one I moved cross country for) I decided I had to move out after a nasty fight but didn’t tell him, I packed and moved in under two hours while he was at work the next day. Luckily I had a lot of man power helping me so I just had to throw stuff in boxes and bags while they did the hard stuff. It was pure chaos, but necessary.
I really wish I could have seen his face when he walked in expecting me to be home and the apartment was almost completely empty (90% of the place was my stuff). It had to have been priceless. lol

7 years ago when my dad was being transferred, my mom was very upset about leaving the area we were living in (actually all of us were) and she refused to really start packing until the week we moved. Wouldn’t have been too bad except that there’s 8 of us kids, and the youngest was 8 months old. It was horrible! We were still packing like mad the day the moving company came and thankfully they were 5 hours late!
Needless to say, when they moved again last weekend, she started packing 6 weeks before!
