- Wedding: September 2011
Hi Bees! I’ve been happily married for 5 days. Darling Husband and I are back from our min honeymoon and I’m taking a break from packing up to move.
Here is a list of all the hell I went through for the wedding. I write this as encouragement because at the end of the day the wedding was perfect in my eyes:
Being made to cry at Davids Bridal because of an inconsiderate worker and my mother at my first and only dress fitting
Have a “family meeting” about our wedding that ended with me upset because I was basically told that our wedding was tacky, classless, nontraditional et al. I acutally fired my aunt as my DOC because of this. She basically told me she was not going to follow my wishes for the wedding and do it her way because her’s was the correct way. Apparently having the Groomsmen and Bridesmaid or Best Man stand together during the ceremony would cause folks to have heart attacks
Having my relationship with my mom go from good to shit because apparently my wanting things she didnt meant I didnt love or respect her enough
Living hand to mouth to pay for the wedding ourselves
Having my ILs wait until the LAST DAY to get their tuxes (they hit financial problems so it was not malicious. I was worried they would not be in the weding)
Having rumors spread about me in church because I cuold not invite the whole church (300+) to the reception. A lot of them did not attend the ceremony even though the church was invited. In my church, the whole congregation is invited to the wedding (an invite is read to them) but the reception is generally invite only. that is the way things are handled. Like 99% of brides, we had family only at our recpetion due to money issues. I was a strain paying for 200 family.
Having people angry I had my cousin as our officiant instead of our senior Bishop who btw has throat issues and is corrently on vocal rest and who had a doctor’s appointment the day of the wedding he would not break.
Having the lady who was supposed to do my cake the Monday of the wedding week inform me in a nasty way she was not doing our cake. Yeah, she got laid out bigh time. Thank goodness for Walmart.
The day before the wedding having to pick up all the rentals in torrental downpours, getting soaked to the bone and arrive at the church with everything wet, including bra and panties
Having my mom the day of the wedding walk around the church and invite random people to come eat.
That is just a small list of the drama!! The day of the wedding, I was cool as a cucumber. My friends had decorated the church in a fantastic way. I looked great and my fiancee looked wonderful. You learn how to roll with the punches and take things as is.
Yeah, my BM’s had feathers in their hair but in the end they looked great. Yeah I knocked my grrom’s flower off his tux but we were laughing at the alter. Yeah, my veilr fell off during the final blessings but it was ok. Yeah, I almost tripped down the aisle while walking and my mother took the time we were walking down the aisle to joke around with people in the pews but you know what, at the end of the day we were married!
Yeah, I had like 5 uninvited people show up at the wedding, who were NEVER sent an invite, but I also had like 20 people who RSVPed yes never show up. One of the uninvited actually drove 15 hours and was never sent an invite!! Yeah, I had kids at the reception but I never noticed. Yeah I never got my square 4 tiered cake but 3 round 2 tier Walmart cakes but it looked great.
I’m so happy!! Hope this helps. Bottom line, enjoy your day because when it’s over it’s over!!
