This has nothing to do with being a Dem or a Rep, this is an American freedom issue.  This happened to an Air Force pilots husband a few weeks ago and he was mid flight to meet her.  He was trapped in Hawii for weeks.

People need to call their Congressmen and Senators and get rid of the TSA, the Patriot Act and the Homeland Security Act, all were bi-partisan issues when they first came up but they were always crap.  I have never agreed with any of them.  They are a hinderance to our freedoms and to the constitution.  My twitter feed is full when there are large events with lots of bloggers traveling, of them getting pulled out of lines and harrassed.  Some have even been put on the No Fly List just because they are Tea Party Members or blog against govermental bills and laws.

@tksjewelry:  Completely agree.  As both a Republican and a US Army Veteran, this story upsets me.

I didn’t read the whole thing, but the United States isn’t allowed to effectively ban someone from coming in to the country.  They can ban flights in, but that guy could fly to Canada or Mexico and come across the border that way.  So it sucks, but he isn’t stuck out of the country, just his means of entry are restricted.

@tksjewelry: Completely right! It’s unbelievable how much freedom we give up, and I don’t think we’re any safer. The TSA is one giant circus of inefficiency.

This is one of the reaosns my fiance voted Libertarian rather than Dem or Republican, and why, if I hadn’t been so worried about Romney, I would have voted for Jill Stein. Neither of the big two parties wants to stop this nonsense.

@abbie017:  If you can’t fly in or out of the US aren’t you also likely to be on the no fly list for Canada and Mexico?

This is very sad. I mean, he served our country for 10 years and they feel that he needs to be put on a no fly list. I seriously cannot get over how terrible this is.

This is why I vote Libertarian.  The TSA and Patriot Act need to be abolished.  The no-fly list is ridiculous.

@peachacid:  Exactly my thinking. Civil liberties are taken away from both sides of the line in the name of safety and necessity.

I always think back to the quote by Benjamin Franklin, “Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.”

@AB Bride:  I think it would depend on why he was added and whether or not that intelligence was shared. I think it’s significantly more likely intel like that would be shared with Canada because of historical treaties, but you never know.

Coming from a legal standpoint, someone placed on a no-fly list should be notified and given the chance to appeal.

@MissNoodles:  That would be really difficult to coordinate from Qatar
