Honestly, in a lot of places at the moment, it’s a numbers game. You should apply for anything and everything you even remotely qualify for. Does your school have a career center which might be able to help? Maybe you could mention to your professors and see if they know of anything? You also might want to seek some help with your resume and interview skills. It’s tough to get noticed in any job market these days and a rewritten resume might just do it.

It sucks though, I know. Just be glad you don’t have a mortgage, kids, etc. and nice parents who are willing to help out.

OMG that sounds like you described me and my town!

I had to quit college before even getting my associates due to health and financial reasons. I wish I had some words of wisdom for you, but if my grandfather wasn’t keeping me “employed” right now I would be homeless and starving.

Good luck on the job search. Something has to come up eventually, right?

I’m sorry you’re going through such a hard time 🙁

I know this probably isn’t any consolation, but many states are tightening up the restrictions on pharmacy technicians (within the past year or two).  For example, I am in Ohio and a child died because a technician made the wrong medication in the IV room and the pharmacist signed off on it.  The pharmacist ended up in jail… the technician walked away and found another job.  I would definitely encourage you to sit for the national exam if you want to continue to look for a pharmacy job.  You can buy study books either online or at bookstores like B&N or Borders.

Here’s a link to a story about the girl who died.

Link to national exam.

I feel your pain… in my situation, I feel like education wise I have done everything anyone would ever recommend, and I’m still not getting responses to job applications.

The constant rejection really gets me down.  Good luck in your search.

You will get a job eventually-I have a bachelor’s degree and completed 2 of 3 years of a master’s degree and it took me 14 months to find a job.  It will happen. I know it is hard.

I’m sorry your job search is so frustrating. Job searching is never fun and much harder in a smaller town – esp in this economy. Hang in there!

Are there restaurants where perhaps you can pick up a waitressing job or perhaps another retailer? I know it’s probably not what you want to do but it may be a good temporary solution.

Apply for everything you can in the meantime and we’re all wishing you luck!

I’m in the exact same boat! After I got my bachelor’s, I got a part-time job in my hometown and began working on my master’s. I was married in February and moved to the town he was working in. He had a full-time job and I was only able to find part-time work, so I moved here. Unfortunately, I’ve been here a month and can’t even get an interview for part-time work! I think I’ve applied for any and every job I’m qualified for. I understand. It’s hard… The job market is down… We’ll find something, eventually.

Have you looked into government jobs?  A lot of civilians can get jobs working for the Department of Defense on military bases or with their contractors as secretaries.  Is there a temp agency around?  They’re pretty good with placing people.  School districts often hire people to work as playground aides, classroom aides, tutors, etc.  They pay decently well (above min. wage in my area, but nothing huge).  Daycares will often hire with no degree also.  Good luck!!  I know how frustrating being out of work is… been there… 🙁
