I just need to rant a bit about this, because it has me quite stressed out.
In my hometown, I had no trouble finding a job. I held the same job for 3 years and for a while I worked two. After graduating high school, I started going to college full time and couldn’t really find a way to make my work and school schedule so I quit. After getting my associate’s degree in science from the local community college, I moved to my present city to get my bachelor’s degree and I started looking for a job at the end of my first semester. I had no luck. I put it off another semester because I was loaded down with a demanding schedule. I started looking again. I got no offers. After that, I decided to just keep looking through the entire semester. People had to graduate or quit somewhere and a position would have to open up. Fast forward to 8 months ago. I was out of school, not really by choice, just an issue with grades and getting them in the system. Four months after being unemployed and not in school, I got an offer. They promised me stable hours, at least 15 hours a week. I went in to talk to the manager and was informed that they would only be working me around 4 to 6 hours a week and that I could go several weeks without a job. I had to turn it down. I need more than that so I can stop depending on my parents and what’s left in my savings account to pay my bills.
A few days ago, I started looking online for more jobs. I found a listing for a pharmacy technician at the CVS here. I applied. I’m not certified as a pharmacy tech but I do have an associate’s degree and I’ve heard that some places will hire you without certification. My cousin, who is also a pharmacy technician, who also has no experience, training or certification, works at a hospital and told me to try it.
I was desperate, not even the fast food joints around here are hiring. And I don’t qualify for any other available jobs, like Advanced Auto Parts, because they want someone who knows about vehicles, and I know hardly anything. Or others want someone with X years of experience.
Can I just say that I am going to be pissed off if I don’t get this job? And yes, this is silly and immature, but I can’t help it. My cousin has never had any problems getting jobs, ever. And she’s working at a hospital, as a pharmacy technician, with a high school diploma. I’m honestly not trying to make it seem like I’m better than she is, but come on, I need a job. I’m 21, I live on my own and I depend on my parents to live. It’s frustrating. Not only do I have to fight with the 3,000 college kids for work, I also have to fight the locals. And, this town, is quite small. It would be nothing but a hole in the wall if no one had built a college here.
I know, I’m not the only one without work, but I needed to fuss about it a little.
