I took it no question myself too.  It’s what I wanted.

I always knew I would take my DH’s name, and I decided to take my maiden name as my middle name. Although I am very happy with my decision, I, too, felt a bit unnerved when I thought about how something that had been SO foundational to who I am for more than four decades was no longer the same. Even though I was very happy about taking my DH’s last name, the change itself definitely took some getting used to. I had to keep reminding myself to say it correctly and to write it correctly. Since I had long ago perfected my former signature, it took time to become used to a new one.

I haven’t actually changed my name yet but I’m pretty sure it’s going to be weird. I did make myself a new gmail account with that name, thought about changing my Facebook but couldn’t bring myself to do it!

Yeah, it was weird for me.  It’s been a year and I still mix it up sometimes.  I guess it doesnt help that I changed everything except for my drivers licence.. and some of my frequent flyer accounts, so I forget which name I use sometimes.

I voted other because the situation is a bit different than a first time bride. I’m definitely changing mine…but then again I changed it the first time and then kept it for now for my kids. I’m looking forward to getting rid of my ex’s last name! One thing is my initials will still be the same lol

I’m ready but it still feels weird! I’m going hopefully next week to the social security office to make it official and then the DMV. At first I was planning on just doing a last name change, end of story. Now I’m seriously thinking about making my maiden name my middle name and dropping my middle name. Not sure yet though. I have less than a week to make a decision.

I’m changing – his name is very strange to me, lol.  It will take a lot of getting used to, but I’d have it no other way (and neither would he! lol)

@Natalieh86:  If you take your maiden name as your new middle name, your FB name could BE your new name. That’s what I did.  Most of my FB friends are known on FB in the format Jane Smith Doe, but their real names are in the format of Jane Ann Doe.  I love that my FB name is my real name. ๐Ÿ™‚

@star_dust:  I just wanted to say that I don’t think you would be sorry if you did what you are considering doing. That is how I changed my name, too, and I absolutely love my new name! It makes things SO much easier, since it’s so easy to figure out that Jane Smith Doe is the former Jane Smith. It’s much more challenging for people (at the post office when delivering mail under your old and new names, at work, etc.) to figure out that Jane Doe is actually the person formerly known as Jane Smith.  Also, becoming Jane Smith Doe gives you SO many options. You can use all three names whenever you want to or just use your first and new last names whenever you want to do so. I use all three of my names on all paperwork and professionally.  However, at church, I’m just known as Jane Doe. ๐Ÿ™‚

@Brielle:  Thank you so much for that perspective! You make so many good points. I’m leaning toward doing it for those reasons. Socially I’d always be known by my husband’s name but legally I can still have my former identity. My mom was the one who originally brought it up to me but her reason is because she’s been divorced twice and regrets parting from her Father’s name the first time. She’s now back to her maiden name only and for some reason she always wants me to retain a part of my original name identity. The only hesitation I really have (I hate my middle name anyway) is that my maiden name really isn’t a middle name type name. It’s strange. And can be pronounced in a way that can mean male genitalia.

i didn’t change my name.  i thought about it for about 2 seconds.   i’ve been married twice before and always kept my maiden name.  why start now?  that’s how people know me.
