I was having trouble deciding between two dresses so I showed my dad a picture of both of them on me and asked for his opinion. I doubt he could tell you what my dress looks like now.
I am doing a “first look” with him instead of my Fiance on my wedding day though.

Fiance doesn’t want to see me until I’m walking the aisle so I guess what I’m planning is much like a “first look” photoshoot between Dad and I instead. I think he’ll get teary-eyed. My aunty did when we bought my dress! Hahaha, she’s so cute!
It’s interesting because as one PP said I almost just sent dad the photo without thinking, then a little voice popped in my head that he might want to wait.
It sounds as though most dads like the idea of being surprised on their daughter’s wedding day and I think that’s super sweet!

My dad flat out refused! It was really sweet. If my mom and I started discussing the details of my dress or even said something like “the alterations appointment is in 2 weeks” he would freak out, start talking really loudly to cover up our conversation, and leave the room! He insisted that he wasn’t ready to visualize me as a bride until he absolutely had to. The day of my wedding I did a first look with my dad as well as with my Darling Husband. I actually got more emotional with my dad. It was the “omg this is really happening” moment for me, as well as for him!

My dad didn’t want to see the dress before the big day – in fact, my photographers surprised me with a “first look” with my dad after I did the one with my husband, and it was incredibly sweet. I got really emotional and we got some amazing father/daughter pictures.

kraykitty: My dad actually really wanted to come dress shopping with me. I had one appointment that my mom suddenly couldn’t make it to and all of my bridesmaids are out of town, so my dad came with me and he was ridiculously excited to do so.
There was also a crazy blow-out sale for Justina McCaffrey dresses (because they went bankrupt) and he drove me to stand in line with me for a few hours.
My next appointment I went with just my mom, found my dress but I wanted to sleep on it. So we went back the next day and I invited my dad to come – he was overjoyed. He really wanted to go but he didn’t want to impose on a mother-daughter moment.
He’s one of my best friends, we are amazingly close, so I’m glad I got to share in the experience with him 🙂
