- Wedding: June 2015
Sorry for not posting this sooner, but I became officially engaged about a week and a half ago! We’d had my mom’s ring (and his great aunt’s ring) sized, his engagement band had come in the mail, and I knew it would be soon, but I didn’t expect it to happen when it did; Monsieur X proposed during a day trip that I had planned for his birthday!
We were going to meet up with some friends that evening and during the day our plan was to get some lunch, tour a venue (I know, I know… early, but we don’t make it down that way as often as we’d like and we were both REALLY EXCITED about this venue), and then maybe browse through a museum before seeing our friends. He wanted to try to take us back to where we had our first date but knew I wanted the proposal to be a surprise, and I had planned the day to be on the opposite end of town, so that wouldn’t work; then, he was hoping to propose before we saw the venue so that we’d be officially engaged for that, but once again I managed to foil his plan. I brought his great aunt’s ring to wear for that event (I got his permission first :P) but he snuck back upstairs and got my mom’s ring and had it in his pocket the entire day. We went to a fancy tea place that we reserve for a once in awhile treat, and when I came back from using the restroom he’d placed my mom’s ring on the tea tray nestled between my cup and the teapot so no one else in the restaurant could see. I’d requested something private, and it worked; I don’t think anyone else in the place knew what was happening! We had a sweet converstion and both managed to hold back tears, put on our rings, and walked out engaged. It was very wonderful.
After we called family (M. X posted to facebook before I was ready so I had to make a few frantic phone calls!) I got a text from my friend who was organizing that night’s activities; apparently half the group had canceled and he wondered if we wanted to reschedule or meet up still. M. X had a headache from the anticipation and so we opted to enjoy a quiet dinner together. Afterwards, my best friend who lives near where we got engaged came out and helped us celebrate with cheesecake and champagne. It was a really great evening. Sorry, wish I knew how to resize the pictures below, but the top photo is of M. X’s engagement ring (he really wanted one!) and my mom’s ring that he proposed with. Below is his great aunt’s ring that I have been wearing more often as it isn’t attached to a band and doesn’t have prongs to snag on any of the wedding gowns that I work with; technically we aren’t supposed to wear jewelry at work!
