As of Friday night, we are engaged! The timing was a little surprising – we went ring shopping in September and decided to go custom. That’s where I left him to order the ring whenver he felt ready. I honestly thought he would wait until the new year since we have plans literally every single weekend this month.
Okay so here’s how it happened. I need to preface this story by explaining something strange that had happened the night before. Sometimes I take his phone and randomly put things into his calendar, little love notes for him to be alerted by at random times on random dates. So on Thursday night we were at my cousin’s place hanging out and I took his phone to do my usual thing. I was goofing around this time and put a poop emoji scheduled to alert him later that evening and I joked that I was scheduling his poops (we joke about poop a lot, it’s kind of our thing – just go with it lol). He hadn’t realized I took his phone and quickly grabbed it from me and laughed and said “I don’t want poops in my calendar” and I was like “alright, let me just do my usual thing then” and he wouldn’t let me have his phone back. This was really unusual behaviour from him, since he always lets me use his phone – he has nothing to hide, I’d let him do the same with mine if he wanted to. I eventually let it go but was still thinking that it was very strange.
So in our city there’s a huge park where they do a “Lighting of the Lights” ceremony by lighting up all the trees and they set up an ice skating rink, Santa’s house, etc. We had originally planned to go on the first day they were lit, November 26th (which, I found out later, was only a few days after he ordered the ring so he wasn’t prepared yet) but the park was SO crowded, we couldn’t even find a parking space several blocks away. We ended up turning around to go home, saying we’d come back some other time when it wouldn’t be so busy. Fast forward to last Friday night. Fiance suggested we go eat at my favourite restaurant (not out of the ordinary for him, he doesn’t like to decide things like that so he usually suggests the same 2 or 3 restaurants all the time). I wasn’t really up for a meal there, as I had started my period and was feeling yucky. I told him I’d actually prefer a different restaurant so we went to one I suggested instead. We ended up in the quietest corner of the restaurant in a cozy little booth. Now what’s weird is that when he picked me up, he wasn’t wearing a jacket (and he hasn’t worn one at all this season as the weather has been mild here). But as soon as we got out of the car he got his jacket out the back seat and put it on. I thought that was odd, who puts a jacket on to go into a restaurant? I had a very brief thought that it might be proposal-related but quickly pushed the thought out of my head because I didn’t want to get my hopes up since I really wasn’t expecting it to happen until 2016.
So we have a nice dinner and once we finished eating we headed to the park. First we stopped at Starbucks for some hot chocolate and proceeded to walk around the park (he still has his jacket on). We walked side by side, looking at the nativity scene, the lit up trees, etc. At one point I ended up on the other side of him and he quickly switched sides. I wondered if something was up when he did that too but again, brushed the idea away immediately. We ended up sitting down on a bench under a lamppost. We talked for a minute or two and then I noticed a bench directly underneath a huge lit up tree. So we got up and sat at that spot.
We were sitting for a minute or two and he said “would you like to know why I wouldn’t let you see my phone yesterday?” and I said “sure?”, execting to find out something bad. He hands me his phone and says “this is what I’ve been working on lately”. I look at it, expecting it to be something related to his job and it’s a photo of a fall background with 4 words on it. The first letter of each word spelled “will”. I was a little oblivious to that and just stared at the picture, wondering what in the world this had to do with his job. He told me to scroll to the next photo so I did and it’s a photo of a winter scene with 5 words, this time the first letter of each spell out “marry”. So I then flipped through the last 2 photos (of spring & summer) and when I flipped to the last one he gets down on one knee, opens the ring box, and asked “Will you be my wife?”
By that point I had started to tear up a little. I didn’t even look at the ring, I just started kissing him. Then after a few kisses he goes “don’t you wanna see it?” lol!
So here’s what you probably all came for π 7mm FB moissanite, 4 prongs. 2 peekaboo gems – my birthstone on one side (pink tourmaline) and his on the other (sapphire). We had wanted it to be 6 prongs instead of 4 but due to the peekaboo stones, it would have been set even higher if we did 6 prongs. The birthstone feature was more important to us than having 6 prongs so it’s perfect π
