Hi bees! I recently got engaged and I’m in love with my ring! I had told my Fiance exaclty what I wanted, and he definitely listened, so that helped. There’s only one teeny tiny thing I want your opinion on… the prongs. I had told my Fiance I always wanted claw prongs and I know he told the jewler that he wanted claw prongs on my ring several times (he had it custom made). When he showed me images of the ring (he proposed with a stand in) the first thing I noticed was that the prongs were round. I mentioned it and he said he was upset because of how many times he told the guy and confirmed that they would be claw prongs. But not a big deal, I was so in love with the photos!
Fast forward to picking up the ring and we had both discussed that we would say something about the prongs since he mentioned it several times and it was not done. But as soon as I got in the room and saw the damn thing, it took my breath away and I didn’t care about the prongs! So we both kind of just let it go. Now, I’m feeling like my ring size could be a bit smaller so we’re likely going to get it re-sized, and I’m wondering if I should bring up the prongs. What do you bees think? I LOVE the ring as-is, but can’t help but feel like it’ll look that much better with claw prongs. But then I flip flop and feel like the round ones are super classic. I don’t want to have them changed only to not like the end result and prefer round prongs.
So I want your opinions! You guys are such ring experts, I figured there’s no better place to ask. What do you guys think? Here is my ring:

I like the softer look of the prongs that you have.

I never really pay attention to the prongs so it doesn’t bother me. Congratulations!

I had to google what claw prongs were lol….. I think it’s toally up to you and based on if you’re willing to part with your ring again (although you are having it resized anyways). But I absolutely LOVE your ring as it is!

I think it looks lovely as is. I think with a soft shaft like an oval and softer shaped prongs look fab.

I think it’s gorgeous as is! Congratulations!

I am a bit prong-obsessed and was adamant about having claw prongs on my ring, so I can totally understand where you are coming from. If claw prongs are what you really want, I would go ahead and bring it up with the jeweler. It sounds like this was completely the jewelers fault, as your Fiance brought it up several times…so I can’t really see him having a problem changing it. It will probably be a relatively simple change, and if you are already having your ring resized, you might as well get the prongs taken care of at the same time. Your ring is stunning as is by the way!! But I do love me some claw prongs!

i think it looks great and i wouldn’t bother changing it!

It looks very beautiful as it is so I wouldn’t change it, but if you want to, make sure that the jeweller is confident and comfortable with doing claw prongs. Their failure to execute your fiances request mat reflect a lack of confidence. I’d rather have the prongs you have and a secure stone than poorly executed claw prongs and an insurance claim.

I don’t think they knew what claw prongs are, look like he try tho. just tell him and bring a picture with you of prongs. What I had to do for my jeweler to know what they look like. Beautiful ring. 💍💎💖💗

loving that oval. are you unhappy with it?

Just like frostfromfire, I too had to google prong difference. It just simply doesn’t seem like something you would worry about or dwell on for any length of time. When I look at rings, I definitely don’t stare at prongs. I agree with some above in saying the round with the oval does make for a softer look that looks great.

Your ring is gorgeous! The oval stone is just lovely. I am also prong obsessed and I adore sharp claw prongs.
