The week leading up the proposal, Mitch(my fiance) was being really secretive about some dinner reservations he was making. We’re not the type of people that go to places that require reservations so I was a little suspicious but I just kept my mouth shut and tried to act like i thought everything was normal. I later found out the reservations were at Buca di Beppo downtown Chicago (this is when i started freaking out because thats where we had our first date about a year and a half ago).
Then Saturday (December 4th) rolled around – we had our first major snowfall of the year and everything was absolutely gorgeous outside. We left for the city around 4:30pm and between Dave Barnes, the city lights and the snow falling it was about as romantic as any car ride could get.
Fast forward to after we found parking… we had to walk a few blocks to the restaurant and it was cold and snowing so we were walking as fast as we could… we finally got to the corner of Rush and Grand (right across the street from Buca di Beppo) and Mitch stopped walking, turned towards me and put his arms around me and he started telling me how much he loved me and how much i meant to him and how where we were standing was the first place he ever held my hand (cue huge smiles and teary eyes)… then right on the corner of the busy Chicago street he got down on one knee, pulled a box out of his pocket, opened it to reveal a beautiful ring and asked…
“Will you marry me?”
.. and I said “YES!”
It was so perfect and wonderful (he even managed to surprise me with the timing!). We stood there and hugged for about 5 minutes and the cold didn’t even matter anymore (how mushy is that? haha). Then we went inside and had a fabulously delicious meal and went home to share the news with our families! It was definitely a moment i’m never going to forget! 🙂 🙂 🙂
