Well this is it folks, I’m officially a fiance!
I came home from work last night at about 10pm and called Fiance (wow, seriously so cool!) to come get me in the parking lot outside our apartment like he usually does when it’s late (it’s a really safe area but he just likes to make sure ;). He told me to “wait 5 minutes and then come in, I’m just finishing dinner and I want everything to be perfect”. I thought it was off that he didn’t want to come get me and that dinner needed to be perfect because half the time he cooks it while I’m sitting right there! (Heck we don’t usually eat dinner together on the nights I work this late, I ususally eat at work but he requested this morning that I didnt because he wanted to cook a surprise). So I waited 5 minutes and came in through the foyer of our building and that’s when I noticed the red rose petals on our door mat! I unlocked the door and followed the rose petals into the apartment and it was all lit up with tea light candles, arranged in heart shapes all around the room! (keep in mind folks I had mentioned tea light candles to him one time, on our first date when I mentioned in passing I had always dreamed of a guy filling a room with candles for me– so romantic!). There was Fiance standing in the middle of the room and when I walked up to him, I could see the tears in his eyes glistening in the candlelight. He said all kinds of sweet things about how much I mean to him, how much he loves me and how well we are together and then he said, “You are my best friend, my love, my soulkate, will you marry me?”! (he always says when I tell him he’s my soulmate that I’m his soulKate because Kate is my name– so cute!). Of course choking back tears I said yes!
We went into the kitchen and the table was all set up like a gourmet restaurant! I sat down and he made me a drink and took the food out of the oven. Pork roast, cauliflower with cheese sauce, peas, salad, bread and honey butter! So good 🙂 Lucky he’s a good cook because i’m not! We ate and talked and enjoyed being engaged and I was so overwhelmingly happy and satisfied and THEN, he got up and went to the fridge and came back with a huge plate full of homemade chocolate covered strawberries he had made that afternoon. There was enough for 40 people probably! They were delicious 🙂
By this point it was past midnight, we had talked, laughed, eaten and enjoyed being engaged and I was pooped! He scooped me up off my feet and brought me to the bedroom door and said, “open it and flick on the light”! I did and what did I see? Our bedroom filled with rose petals and red and gold balloons! So fun and so many surprises. Well of course we didn’t go to bed then, we bopped around the balloons and I flopped down on the bed and Fiance gathered up the rose petals and threw them up in the air over me. I felt like I was in a movie 🙂
So everything wasn’t “perfect”, I came home a little too early for Fiance to be completely ready, the pork roast took longer than he thought and we spilled a little wax putting all the candles out but our love, our night and this experience was my kinda perfect and everything I could have ever dreamed of 🙂
Oh and the ring! It’s a .75 carat round center stone, and heirloom diamond from my mother in a bezel set halo setting with side stones and stones in the band (white gold) and a I don’t think it could get any more beautiful if it tried! It sparkles with the best of them, has so many diamonds but still looks delicate on my size 5 fingers (well it’s too big but once it’s sized!) and really pays tribute to my mother who passed away and her original engagement ring (a center stone with two side stones on each side) while still including everything I wanted and being completely me! And he designed it with the jeweler, I mean c’mon, how adorable! 🙂
Thanks for indulging my being head over heels! Now here are some pics from last night (though I will be sure to post better non-cell pics of the ring when I get a chance because it totally doesn’t do it justice!)
