I’d put an ad on craigslist asking for a cheap/free photographer. see if you get any hits.  Going to a local school is a good idea too but it seems like your ceremony location is far away?

@Carolyn72 Your wedding is on my birthday!!:) Two of my friends didn’t have a professional photographer at their weddings and they still have a ton of really awesome photos! Some times the guest captured pictures are the best! I wish we had the money for a videographer.

Look on craigslist! It’s where I found my photographer, who is willing to do it for free to build up her portfolio– it won’t be as amazing as someone who has had years of practice, it’ll be better than having a friend have to miss out on festivities, as well as you get to help someone else! πŸ™‚

i had just about everything i wanted for my wedding except the quality of the resort/beach.  we had to go with a 3 star and not a 4 or 5 star, which really was okay too because the actual wedding (ceremony, dinner, reception) was all fabulous. what i have trouble getting past is that the primary reason i wanted a beach wedding was for the big white gorgeous beach i see in everyones Destination Wedding pics. and it just so happened that the one resort i picked in Jamaica had a really small beach, the sand was not that white or fluffy and no palm trees were at my ceremony site.  i know it sounds trivial but that was really the one true thing i wanted more than anything for my beach wedding was a stunning beach.  i was so fortunate to get a photographer that made it look as good as possible, but i remember a couple of days before my wedding when the coordinator showed me the spot on the beach where the ceremony would be, my heart sank.

it took some time and some obsessing post wedding to get past it. although still sometimes when a bee puts up her beach wedding pics, i still feel that pang that i should have had my wedding at a different resort…..

ironic enough, some of my guests got better pics of the ceremony site, so i think you may still get some amazing shots.  could you designate someone to take all your “must haves”?  my guests also got the few details shots my photog did not get, so between everyone i got almost all the pics i wanted.

@Carolyn72For my reception, I was thinking of asking a student, even paying them a small fee.

I have several friends that have done this recently and all with good results. I think it is a great idea to save money and it helps them to build up their portfolio. Perhaps contact a local college in the area of your wedding?

according to my experience, no matter who take your wedding photos, you family or the professional photographer, you would always feel happy when you looking those pics after wedding.   This is my feeling, i have had my brothers took pictures not photographer.

Maybe you could take a few pics by photographer in studio as a supplement of your wedding.

I just posted this in another thread:  You might be surprised at the fact that some of your guests might be thrilled to take pictures for you!  My cousin didn’t have a professional photographer either, but I love to take pictures and was planning to have my camera at the ready even if she did.  It turned out that she was so thrilled that I’d taken the pictures and I was thrilled that it was something that I love to do that would make her so happy!

We didn’t have a photographer. My sister took them & other guests of course. But my sister took the posed pictures after the ceremony. I knew she would do a good job because she has taken many pictures of us.

Here are some she took using my camera which is a Samsung 12.2 mega pixal camera 4.6 zoom if that matters? lol It also has editing built in to smooth skin & all of that good jazz. Anyways here are some of my non pro pics that I used for our wedding album & as our pro pics! πŸ˜‰

I wish I can have a DJ.  But we’re using our iTunes on our laptops.
