I posted 2 weeks ago about knowing he had my ring but hadn’t proposed. He kept telling me he wanted to do it when the weather was nicer outside. Not in the winter. Well he finally told me he was just saying that to try to throw me off of what he was really planning. He had to go to court yesterday for a speeding ticket he had gotten a few months ago while we were traveling through there to his family’s place in WV. He thought it would be nice to go away for the night. We went early Saturday to Virgina. We planned to stay in Royal Front VA and visit the Shenandoah State Park since we both love the mountains. There was a huge mountain that he wanted to walk up. It’s called Old Rag Mountain. The round trip was 8.8 miles. The hike was listed as “VERY CHALLENGING HIKE ACROSS A STRENUOUS ROCK SCRAMBLE TO THE SUMMIT.” I had told him that I wanted a ice cream if I was able to do that. My friend said maybe my ring would be my reward for doing it. Well we got all the way to the top. Along the way he kept asking if I wanted to turn around and I kept saying no because I was hoping that what my friend said was really true! Well we got all the way to the top. He looked at me and told me that he would get me the biggest sundae I could find. I was so upset. I had my mind believing I was getting my ring. He asked me what was wrong because he could tell I was upset. I told him about my conversation with my friend. He told me he was sorry to disappoint me but the ring was at home in his gun safe. On the way down the mountain I told him that the waterfall that we were suppose to do yesterday might be too much. That it was 6.4 miles round trip and we had to get to the courthouse so we shouldn’t do the waterfall. He told me that the waterfall was what I was looking forward to and that we should look to see if maybe we would find one that wasn’t so much of a hike. We looked when we got back to the hotel and found one that was 2.4 miles round trip. It wasn’t the one I wanted to do. The one I wanted to do was a 93 foot waterfall. I was going to settle for the little one because he told me we could come back in the fall and do the big one if I found a little one to hold me over until then. So I said ok. Yesterday we woke up at 5am to drive into the Shenandoah Valley mountains. We went and looked at the sunrise come up over the mountain. I wouldn’t get out of the car because it was too cold. After that we drove to where it said the smaller waterfall was. We started hiking through the path. We got to a point where the path split so we took the easier path. After walking for a while we realized we should have taken the other one. Well it was freezing cold that high up the mountain and it was getting later and he had to go back to the hotel to change for court and we had to check out by 11am. He told me that we should turn around because my knee hurt, it was 27 degrees and it was getting late. I said ok. I stopped along the path to sit and fix my sock that was falling into my shoe. When I stood up he grabbed me and hugged me. He told me he loved me and was sorry I didn’t get to see my waterfall. Then he said “I know this isn’t the mountain top like yesterday and I know this isn’t the waterfall but I love you and I want to be with you. I’m not on my knee because it’s cold as shit. This isn’t the way I had it planned but it’s the best I can do. You’re cold and in pain and I feel bad. If I knew you were going to change your mind about the waterfall I would have done this yesterday on top fo the mountain but I can’t wait any longer to ask you this. Will you marry me?” He took out the ring. Slipped it on my finger and said “Even though you don’t always think I love you I do love you shithead and I want to be with you.” I didn’t mind the shit head because he calls me that every time I doubt his love for me. I wouldn’t have asked him to take the “shithead” part back ever. That made it unique! LOL… He told me he had been planning on giving it to me at the waterfall. That if he had known we weren’t going to make it to the waterfall he would have given it to me at the top of the mountain. He said when I told him on the way down the mountain that I didn’t want to go to the waterfall anymore he was going to give it to me at the car but figured he could find a waterfall. Then with it being cold he was going to give it to me during the sunrise but I wouldn’t get out of the car. He didn’t want to do it on a path to a waterfall but we didn’t have any other options because I kept changing my mind about stuff. LOL… It didn’t turn out the way it was planned but that’s ok!
