It’s been five days. Am I supposed to still feel like I’m in a dream? Looking at my left hand doesn’t ground me at all; I am in the clouds and don’t think I’ll be back to earth any time soon. I watch wedding videos of other women, read blogs, search for venues, browse through dresses online, and all I can think is, “I can’t believe I’m getting married!” Then there’s my poor fiancé that gets a squeal and statement of the obvious (“We’re getting MARRIED!”) every thirty minutes, like clockwork.
Needless to say, I’ve never been this excited in my life. Or happy. Or giddy. Or energized. I’m so excited/happy/giddy/energized that it actually takes a noticeable amount of effort for me to snap back to reality and enjoy the engagement for its simplicity, rather than engulf myself with all of the things I have to–and want to–do for the wedding.
Yesterday, we were cleaning the house because we had friends over last night, and I found myself lying to my fiancé, “Babe, I’ll be upstairs working.” (Notice the non-specified task I would be conquering. He’s a man, I thought, he won’t ask what I’ll be doing.) I retreated to the office and spent an hour and a half browsing through different venues and dresses. He ended up cleaning everything himself and didn’t seem too thrilled when he found out what I had been doing or how I conned him.
So, I ask, am I exhibiting abnormal behavior? As I mentioned, I am living in the clouds, so knowing which way is up is currently a challenge. I feel compelled to ground myself and focus, especially once I start planning, so that wise, thought through decisions will be made. The task at hand is figuring out how. Ah!

@mckay1am: Hi! Welcome to the bee! Congrats on your engagement!
Don’t let wedding planning consume your life. You don’t want your Fiance thinking that the only thing you care about is “wedding” and not “marriage” Don’t lie to him about what you are doing. Depending on where you live, things could be booked through 2012 already. I know some venues around here are booked and the one we chose was booked through May of 2012 when we booked last October.
Have fun with your planning!

Congratulations! The first thing I went and did was buy a bridal magazine and then looked at dresses on-line. Happy planning 😉

I’m sure he understands that you were just excited, and got distracted, but I wouldn’t make a habit of it.

Congrats!! The first few days of wearing my engagement ring, Fiance would catch me just staring at it and smiling! Enjoy the feeling and every step of planning, because it does go by fast! I’m 5 months away and I feel like I need time to go a little slower!
Can’t wait to read all of the details!

@ missjyc…I’d love any info you’d be willing to share. Thanks for offering! I have a venue in mind but need to call them. I need a good florist, and DJ that have reasonable prices, if you can help me there. Thanks again!
