If you want a totally kid free wedding your best bet would be to elope and just do a reception, or have it in California so that your extended family won’t be able to make it.

last option- sounds like eloping would be ideal. Or nearly eloping… have your immediate family only.  Or invite 10 or less guests.

Since you dont want kids, I think you have to do option 3 (can you find a Veterns Hall in CA?) or a Destination Wedding. I’d do it in Las Vegas. Most people can get cheap flights. Your family might be able to come (but let them know it’s a no kid wedding, are you okay if they attend the reception?)

@LadyMoriarty:  What about a public park? Usually it’s extremely cheap (like $100-200) but they book quick so you may need to wait 1-2 years and you have to bring everything from the outside.

I live cross-country from my family too.  However, there aren’t many kids and the point of my ceremony is to have family attend, so I’m having it there, on the east coast, and travelling.  A few of our friends from California will make it, but not most.  However, we do have friends who live out there too, conveniently.

If I were in your shoes, I’d probably have a small, intimate ceremony in CA with just your close family and your friends.  Maybe go out to dinner afterwards at a restaurant instead of having a reception.  Then, later on, have a party at your Aunt’s B&B for the rest of your family to celebrate – casual and picnic style, so it’s more just a family party than an all-out reception.   EDIT:  I just saw how you do NOT want a family picnic, so sorry if this option is not right for you!  But I thought if there really is no way around the screaming kids if you do something in NY, don’t make it your main event. =)
