Sometimes I feel I have this whole planning thing backwards…
It’s not like plans aren’t happening. I’ve been engaged for 4+ months now, and thankfully my Fiance and I have make some major progress… In fact, we have many important aspects finalized! Like the reception hall.. And the wedding photographer.. And the wedding ceremony location… well kindof? Initially we picked a church but are contemplating switching to another. It depends on the number of guests we decide to invite and how many accept. On top of these, we’ve picked our wedding party, decided on bridemaid’s dresses (i’m picking the color, fabric, and length of the dress and they pick the style), ordered my wedding band and I even found my wedding dress/veil etc…
I guess I’m a little frustrated at the moment because we still haven’t decided on the color palette. We chose Lapis, a dark purple, for the main color but are SERIOUSLY struggling to pick the accent color(s).. Visualizing centerpieces, invititations, etc.. would be SO much simpler if I could just make up my mind! Has anyone else had this problem? Or does anyone have any suggestions? Maybe ivory since my dress is ivory? But then what else? AHH :] I’m also finding it hard to visualize, keeping in mind affordability, certain aspects of the wedding planning. We have yet to get close to finalizing a guest invite list.. at this point, who knows how many tables we’ll need at the reception hall!
Alright, well, to be honest, I’m not sure how necessary this post was… Mostly, it just felt good to get it all out.. oh the wonders of wedding planning.. it’s driving me crazy already!

purple and green are very big right now as a paring. You could use orange as an accent, pink or even a dark red.
I think that you should look at a million pictures, and think about elements you want to incorporate
Then think of the style you want.
If you want something modern, green and white orchids would be great with purple. If you want something romantic, dark red roses and dahalias would be beautiful. If you want something classic and simple, add a couple other shades of purple and just do purple and ivory.

Consider that lapis is a cool color and ivory is just a hint of warm… the ivory would soften up the lapis purple a bit, but your third color is what will sway your color scheme into the warms or the cools. With me so far?
If you pick a warm color, your lapis is going to look very dark by comparison. Imagine your lapis sitting next to a red-orange… the red-orange will POP and the lapis will become the dark “foundation” color. You’ll also have an easier time finding flowers in red-orange.
If you pick a cool color, you’ll get an almost royal effect. Think Caesar! Imagine your lapis on one side and your ivory on the other, and in the middle place an apple green. Your lapis won’t look quite so harshly dark by comparison, and your ivory is going to look like a cool color too, so now your whole color pallette is in the cools.
I hope that helps visualize! Also check out the inspiration boards on the Snippet and Ink blog; many Bees have used it for inspiration.

thank you ALL for the responses! You are seriously making visualizing a lot easier… I think right now I just need TONS of ideas (like what you are all giving me now). I’ve searched around for pictures, but w/o a general idea, it’s hard to get anything from it!

Ok just some quick ideas off the top of my head without any serious thought about them:
Lapis as base with various shades of ligher purples and ivory
Same as above with pinks mixed in and ivory
Purple with a metallic like silver/pewter/gold/bronze with ivory
Purple with yellow and green tones and ivory
Purple with reds/fushias/pinks and ivory
…anything spark your imagination?

When I was trying to decide on our colors I spent a lot of time looking at The Perfect Palette. She separates the tags of the posts out by color so you can look at specific ones. Here’s the link for inspiration boards she’s done with Plum. Maybe they’ll give you some ideas on what colors you like together? Good luck!

Lapis was my first choice in wedding colors, but was immediately nixed by my family (who knew that they considered it a “funeral color” in the Vietnamese culture?). What about Lapis, ivory, and clover? With Calla lilies? Gorgeous.
