When I went, they provided me with a longline bra to wear (though bringing your own certainly won’t hurt). Wear nude underwear, not a thong unless you don’t mind the associate seeing your butt. I’ve heard the horror stories too, but it really depends on your location and how busy they are. I went when there was hardly anyone else in the store and had a great time, my associate was lovely. Also, have pictures ready of what you want!

@CiciJapan:  Dont only try on one. I did that and then exchanged it. AND if you are looking at their most expensive dresses, dont limit yourself to just Davids. My dress is a Melissa Sweet from Davids and I wouldnt trade it for any other dress, but keep in mind that for $1300 you can look at other designers outside of Davids! You can also look at dresses (not davids) around $1700 and buy them around $1300 as a sample or from brides with regrets. Also, if you have bigger breasts, dont let them talk you into buying the wrong size longline bra (if you dont already own one.) I have a whole thread about that. And last, if you buy your dress there, dont do alterations there. Period.

@CiciJapan:  I went complete with my own strapless bra and waist cincher, but they gave me one of their corset-y type things to wear.

Did you add any dresses to your favorites list on their website? If you do, they have that list at the store and thats the first dresses they’ll pick out for you to try on and it also gives them an idea of your preferred style. But dont just try on one kind of style. If if theres something you think you’ll hate, try it on anyways.

keep an open mind and don’t bring too many people. Bring people who know you and understand the look you want for the day (not those who have their own agenda)

@sheepandbear:  I cant believe they didnt have a bra to fit you. I’m an E and they had one that fit me, it actually almost too big.

I thought I would hate mermaid, but ended up loving it! Turned out I wanted more shape than an A-line was giving me

Wow you’re already more prepared than I was! Just try on all different styles and have fun. The first time I went shopping I went to davids with my mom just to find out what I liked; style, shape, fabric. I ended up buying my dress somewhere else.

If they suggest you try something on, I say do it. Some of my very favorite dresses I tried on were ones the consultant picked out and that I would have never thought I liked. It never hurts to try. I’m prob about to buy a dress that a consultant picked out that I wouldn’t have touched and I love it!!! Have fun and SHOP AROUND!!

Definitely take your time and enjoy yourself- don’t feel pressured into buying anything on the spot! I was offered 20% discount for buying on the same day, and ended up with dress regret. The 20% I saved ended up costing me over $1100 to cancel the dress and buy the second dress I loved (and would have bought first if I hadn’t felt rushed into a decision), so learn from my mistake:) Have fun and try on everything- even styles you think you hate or won’t look good on you.

@CiciJapan:  First… have a blast!!!  This is suppose to be fun and exciting!

Second, I went to the DB closest to me and my consultant was the BEST every!  I loved her and can’t wait to work with her again for the dresses for my girls. (we have a ways off for that), the manager was wonderful, she came up a few times to ask how we were doing.

Third, try on EVERY style dress they have!  I am 5’2″, with a 42D chest and I swear I thought that A-line was the ony way to go!  HORRIBLE… I looked sooo much shorter then I really am.

There was a display dress that we had looked at and my Maid/Matron of Honor said ahh what the heck pull that one, I know she won’t like the bow but you never know.

It was a fit and flare/mermaid style and I LOVED it!  I tried it on twice and teared up both times!!!  So you never know what style will look the best on you!

Keep an open mind!!
