Hi Bees, I would like your help please. The new apartment we have moved into is practically ALL CARPET. Except for the bathroom and kitchen, all the rooms have like whiteish carpeting. We can’t change the carpet (landlords are in laws and they requested that) and my last place was all hardwood flooring so I don’t really know what vacuum to get. I know I would like a canister vacuum because there are stairs. We have a black short haired cat. I was thinking of the Dyson d39 Animal but I’d like to hear what the Bees recommend. Thank you!

@Epyon: We recently got the Bissell Lift Off Pet vacuum. Its an upright but the middle section comes off and becomes a canister. We have three dogs and a house full of carpet and I love it. The canister that detaches is great for vacuuming the stairs which was always a problem area for us. I bought this one because of the price and the fact my mom has the same one (she has two dogs) and she loves it. She has had hers for over a year and still likes it. It was far cheaper then the Dyson animal series.

We have a Kirby. It is really expensive, but the best vacuum on the market. It has a lifetime warranty, so while it is an investment, you’ll never need to buy a vacuum again.

I have a Dyson. It’s amazing. I recommend a canister over the upright. You can get more suction for your money. They just redesigned the rollers and balls on their vacuums, so you can find the last model on closeout in some places.

I have a Rainbow E-machine. Best vacuum on the planet. But it’s really expensive. I swear I live with the only man crazy enough to spend over $1000 on a vacuum, but the thing is a tank. Also has a lifetime warranty.

I have a Miele. We got an upright (it’s the pet hair one) and it’s FAB. They’re expensive (ours was a wedding present) but amazing. My mom has a Miele canister vacuum and it’s also wonderful. They too have a lifetime warranty. What we love about ours is that it has a dial that you can switch from deep carpet to low to hardwood, so it’s good for everything. It’s a little heavy, we call it the beast, but the canister vacuums are a lot lighter.
