There’s only one picture.  I think that Denny’s looks pretty cool, but without seeing the other picture, it’s hard to understand what you’re talking about…  We’re you looking for something a little ‘older’ vintage?

Ahhhh…. Now I see what you’re looking for…  You’re looking for a 1940’s look, not a late 1950’s look…

Yeah. That Denny’s doesn’t match what you’re looking for.

Just tell the photog that you appreciate the research but had something else in mind.  And just suggest a different place to him.  Just because he suggested the place doesn’t bind you to it.  Since he went ahead and got the car, just take a few pics with it but then move on.

I think the pics with the car could be fun, but I would politely tell the photog you’d like to nix the Denny’s pics. Do you have any other ideas for possible locations, maybe some that are special to you and your FI?

It’s the clothes and the post-processing that give your inspiration pic that retro look; you could have your photo shoot pretty much anywhere and still achieve that look!

It’s a little late to do anything about it now. Agree with PPs about taking a few pics with the car and gently asking if you can skip the Denny’s.

It sounds like poor communication all around. You should have shown your photog your inspiration pics, and you should have told him no as soon as you realized this wasn’t going in the direction you wanted it to. Even if your Fiance said yes, you could have called back to explain the misunderstanding. I’m sure you’re going to have great pics anyway, even if they’re not exactly what you planned. And definitely learn from this and open the lines of communication better before your wedding!

Did you show the pictures you had in mind to your photog?  I could see how vintage could be interpreted as sock-hop, soda-fountain, “happy days”…. and that’s what it sounds like the photog had in mind (with the car, etc).

I wouldn’t think of vintage when I saw that pretty picture – what she’s wearing is vintage, but there’s nothing about the setting that screams vintage to me.  Maybe you could tell the photog that you’ll BE the vintage and want a more romantic setting vs. the setting be the vintage feel…. you know what I mean?

I think you could get some pretty cute pictures at that diner, though!!
