Have you thought about using silk flowers and pomanders?

Do you have a venue?

I’m sure it will be great!  But if there are specifics that you are worried about, why don’t you post pics of what you have so far or what you may need input on.  There are some great DIY’er’s out there that have some really great budget-friendly tips that look fantastic.

@SweetRose2011: haha I wondered if anyone would notice my icon 🙂

Can we see a pic of your venue? Maybe it’ll be easier to give suggestions. What colors are you going for?

Print a Michael’s coupon every time you go in.

You can buy potted moms. Dress up the container and send them home with guests 🙂

I love mums!  And I’m sure you could do them cheaper or better than what the florist would do for $300.  Could you go to yard sales to find unique (and cheap) pots, or even the regular terra cotta pots?  The mums shouldn’t cost more than $8 or so per plant at Lowes or Home Depot.  And, nurseries also often have better ones for just about the same price.

Why not potted mums and candles? Your venue looks very pretty.

Romantic is what you make it. I love sunflowers. They make me think of being happy, carefree, barefoot and in love

we are having a florist do our boquets and some arrangements but for our centerpieces we bought mason jars at wal mart and are having 3 at each table with a cream hydrangea in each and 3-6 candles (we got 3 pack cream votives, at THE DOLLAR TREE!)

you could buy hydrangeas in bulk from a florist or even a grocery store and do something like that yourself?

@SweetRose2011: Psssht I’d come in riding an elephant if I could (and it wasn’t inhumane). It’s YOUR DAY.

Can you show me a pic of the flowers you’re thinking of? Even one from online that kind of resembles it.

I have no technical advice for you, but let me offer you a big hug because I know exactly how this feels. My budget is bare to the bone. I mean – I’m talking about not having centerpieces, about having ugly folding chairs, about having bought a plain white silk dress from J. Crew with a broken strap off of eBay. That’s how bare bones it’s getting.

When I look at “wedding porn,” I get really upset. So I’ve just stopped. I literally try to wash negative feelings out of my mind, imagining a beautiful blue wave rolling across my thoughts. Sometimes, a wedding budget it so small that no matter what you do, it’s going to look bare and spare – but not necessarily ugly. I know that I could drive myself insane thinking of all kinds of things to do to pretty and fancy it up, and I may try some, but ultimately I know that I’m never going to have a wedding like lots of other girls.

And when I think about it really hard, I can’t remember the flowers at my friends’ weddings. I suppose I can, vaguely, but not $300-worth-of-memory, which is what their fancy cake-table flowers cost, or the hundreds more yet for flowers hanging off the backs of chairs. I remember drinking, laughing until I cried, dancing.

I also love talking to older ladies who say with a small glint of pride in their eyes, “When I got married I was so poor that I had to cut dogwood flowers off of my mother’s favorite tree” or “I wore my sister’s debutante dress.” Back then, there was a kind of plucky, can-do attitude that I really admire. Instead of making it a weakness, make it a strength. Keep your chin up and don’t let other girls’ weddings get you down; be proud that you’re pulling it off on a shoestring. I know it sounds cliche, but anybody in your life who’s going to snub you over little gold bamboo chairs is someone you’re better off without.

I use theknot.com for their inspiration board feature and it helps me see everything together. I think you should try that so you can visualize it instead of having it all in your head.
