I’ve seen some GRE talk on here lately, how did you guys do? I feel like I’m doing awful and I’ve got a crazy head cold that’s preventing me from sleeping well.
I’m worried I won’t get any sleep the next few days and I’ll bomb the test.
I already think my score if going to be severely average, or worse. I’m doing so bad on all the practice tests 🙁
I just need some ressurance that other people lived through the GRE’s!

I lived, but did so badly!! Like.. laughably badly. Like, I’m not even going to tell you how bad because you’ll wonder how it;s possible that I’m intelligent enough to post on here. Haha! But, to my discredit, I really didn’t study much. Some people do fine – at least we can retake it. I will probably not retake mine just because I am broke, and my GPA is really strong, so I’m hoping my GPA, essays and recommendation letters get me into the program I want. GOOD LUCK! One thing I can tell you.. study vocab flash cards like crazy!!! There are insane words that I have never even heard of, and I’m a proofreader/copywriter full-time!!

I’m not taking the GRE yet, but I have finals tomorrow and still sick, so I feel ya!
Good luck, and get lots of sleep Thursday night.

I took the GRE several years ago, but I had a head cold, too! And I passed. 🙂 I do remember that the vocab/verbal part of the exam was MUCH harder.

I took them, did poorly, and lived to tell about it (even got accepted to some schools!). Relax, eat healthy, drink lots of water and tea, get PLENTY of rest. And be warned–they don’t let you go into the test center with a scarf around your neck. And they told me if I took off my hoodie I’d have to tie it around my waist! It totally threw off my game.
Also–if you’re not sure where the test center is, do a drive-by the day prior. That totally eased my nerves, especially since I’m prone to getting lost.

I lived but pretty much bombed but still got into grad school. Remember, you can always take it again! I got in based on my work experience, GPA, and rec letters. GRE’s are not the be all end all.

I took the GRE 5 years ago. (WHAT that was already 5 years ago! I’m only 25.) I bought a study book to prepare and focused mainly on the math…I hadn’t taken a math class since I was 18. As long as you a fairly good at math don’t worry about it, it’s much easier than SAT math. But study your vocab. The writing sections want you to argue a point. I went back to my 3-4th grade presuasive writing lessons. State your point/position and then develop ideas to support your arguement writing a paragrph for each & then conclude. The prompts should be written where anyone could write on the subject.
The Friday before I took the GRE a police dective called me up and wanted me to come in for questioning. Apparently two girls got in a fight at a party the night before, one must have had my first name. They must have ran the name through the university database and been calling each person. I later got a phone call back from the detective to apologize. I remember telling him “Sir I can count on 1 hand how many times I’ve been out this semester, I have my GRE next week, I don’t have time to go out.”

Taking a test when you’re sick is the worst! Get lots of sleep tonight and tomorrow, and ditto on what potatochips said about checking out the test site if you don’t know where it is. I got a teensy bit lost on the day I took mine and was minorly freaking out about it.
I studied really hard for the GRE and was scared to take it because all my practice test scores were really low. I did well though, although I did better on the math than verbal, when I was expecting vice versa.
I didn’t get any rules about hoodies or scarves, but do dress in layers because you never know how warm or cold it will be. Good luck! You’ll rock it!

I’m going to take some Nyquil tonight in hopes I’ll get good sleep. Fiance talked me into retaking them if I do poorly. He’s so rational. I’m only applying to one school and everything else I have submitted is pretty strong. But, I’m only smart because I study my ass off, it definitely doesn’t come naturally.
I’ll let you know how it goes! Unless I score a 240 or something.

hahaha Nimiele, my score wasn’t too far from a 240!! 🙂

Good luck on the GRE! I’m not sure what it is like compared to the GMAT, which I took, but I was able to just squeak by the minimum score that I needed to get into my grad school! Feel better!
