There’s an easy solution given that we cannot control what others want to discuss. Don’t open and read the post.

Yet threads like these never seem to be any more productive.

Moissy/diamond threads are like stripper threads. They come and go, like fat/skinny threads and cheating threads. Only way to not keep the drama going is to just keep it moving and start new and interesting topics.

My neck is wound in plenty tight, if these threads piss you off so much we’re offering some solutions so you may avoid future aggravation. I’m not offended, it takes much more than some moissy bickering to offend me.

They don’t apply to me since I’ve never envied either and I’m a gemstone bride. I just ignore those and keep moving on. It’s a “to each their own” kind of thing, I suppose.

I think both are gorgeous but I personally prefer diamonds. I’ve seen mossanite in person, and I really think it looks JUST like a diamond…which makes me like it just a smidge less because I prefer something unique instead of copycat…and I’m a sparkle junkie, and my diamond glitters more then the mossanite did, (it may just be this particular company though, I can’t be sure)…by my FAVORITE favorite of all the rocks is tanzanite cuz I’m a November baby… =)

I find the whole moissanite vs diamond thing fascinating. Actually I find all the issues around rings fascinating.

Both diamonds and moissanites are beautiful but very well marketed luxury commodities. The marketing just seems to bite a bit deeper in the US than it does elsewhere (for the most part).

I’d only briefly heard of moissanite before coming on here from a friend who thought it was really cool because it had been discovered in a meteorite but (above all else) because it was also man made (which was important to her as a science geek). I’d never heard of “upgrading” your engagement ring.

I see what you’re saying, b/c yes, it’s like, “who CARES what anyone else prefers? it’s supposed to be about what YOU like!” But, I don’t mind those threads so much b/c I think it’s one way that people could be introduced to moissanite who have never heard of it before.

@mrs_moden_to_be: My fiance referred me to the scene in Snatch with a moissanite when I mentioned it to him.

I think it hasn’t caught on here because there’s no expectation of a big rock. I work with a lot of very well-paid people and none of them have bigger than about half a carat (and that’s considered pretty big).
