So I was looking at some old posts about processional songs. I realized that all those songs, while beautiful, are too sappy for me. What the hell do I look like coming down the aisle with all these tears and racoon eyes from tear stained makeup?! I LOVE those song choices, but I am a fun loving person and when I am in the mood can dance and party with the best of em. My fiance is laid back but has been know to tear up a go-go back in the day. How I would love to see him with a daggone S-Curl! (he is now bald)
Anyway, we decided since we want our wedding to be laid back but still not too cook out, we are going with this. I think it is so dope!
I will come out to something all sappy like Canon in D or some traditional mess (I think it is a nice song, but just not me. Why the hell would I walk to Here come the bride, all dressed in white with a fire engine red dress?!) then have the dj (old school, no ipod mess) scratch it and say, “Hold up! Hold up! Show em how it is done Maya J. and drop “Moments in Love” and my parents and I two step down the aisle to that! Now I have NEBER seen that and I can’t wait to surprise my guests with that!
Be honest, is that too hood? My sister will probably have a damn fit if I tell her which is why I am not telling anyone but the DJ and my fiance. We want our reccessional song to be something upbeat and fun too. I was thinking the instrumental to “Gimme That” by Chris Brown (my fiance loves that song! SMH)
I was gonna write this as a blog but let me explain why I ask if I am hood. According to my sister/MOH and parents I want it have it MY way. I am making all the decorations, my veil, shoes, centerpieces, signage, cardbox, ring pillow, etc. I do not want kids at the wedding because honestly we can’t afford to have them(a minimum of 30 kids). Then I do not understand why my mother wants me to invite a cousin of mine who isn’t even close and has always had negative things to say about me marrying Mr. C with no reasons to back it up. UGH!
Sorry for the venting. If my phone rings one more time with me getting asked why I am not inviting someone or have 2 for # of guests checked when it is only YOU that has been invited, I’mma flip!

I actually think it sounds great!
We had a really short aisle, and I walked down to Heath Ledger singing “Can’t take my eyes off you” from 10 Things I hate about you (hubs choice). I love different choices, that’s what makes your wedding more pesronalized!
Also, I think you have a right to make your wedding your way. You should only invite who you want, and DIY how you see fit. Its YOUR wedding, so you should make it a testament to you and your man. I hate going to weddings where it looks like the same old cookie cutter thing!

I LOVE THAT IDEA!!! Moments in love! That was the jam back in the day! How memorable that will be!
I wouldn’t say that is hood at all. I would call it old school. When I think “hood” I think saggy britches and doo rags, not S-Curls and Art of Noise.
ETA: I would love to see the video of that!

My friends walked in to Mary J and Method Man “Your All I Need” and it was bomb!

I was having the same thoughts because I won’t be having the usual wedding song myself. No you aren’t hood girl- you are YOU! And it is YOUR wedding 🙂

i am sooo feelin the Mary J and Method Man entrance!! but no i dont think it would be too hood but IMO i would skip the traditional stuff altogether and just start 2 stepping lol

Honestly, I love your idea! There is nothing “hood” about that. I wish I could do some fun stuff like that, but the old people in the audience might get “offended”. I love Moments in Love, btw. There are several different version of it on Youtube. You might even be able to find one more “wedding-y”. I don’t know what I am walking down the aisle to, but I know it won’t be “Here Comes the Bride”.

Personally.. I think it’s hood, but that’s just me. I’m not invited so do you, lol!

That sounds like a ton of fun. I’m defintely doing a recessional old skool jam. I’m not sure what my processional will be yet.

I think it’s a great idea! I don’t know why anyone would consider that “hood”. Do YOU!

I think it should be whatever you want. It is your wedding and whatever you feel comfortable with is what you should do. I am a bride who loves sappy and traditional for my wedding ceremony and fun for my reception. I am walking down the aisle to “How strong is my love” by Alicia Keys. Then for my reception first dance we are dancing to My Everything by Mary J then remixed into the Doing the Butt and Teach me out to Dougie. So If that is not hood then I do not know what is….
