@Mint2BMrsB:  I am not familiar with the area where you have booked your ceremony, however for what they are charging you seems to be unreasonable to me especially with it not including chairs and then charging an additional $1750.00 to use the facility for your reception with no tables or chairs, you could find a location that includes what you need with catering included if you look around. With your guest being close to the airport, why not look for a nice hotel in the area that has a banquet hall.

Search the internet for venues in the area that you are looking to be in. Check out http://www.herecomestheguide.com to see if you can find a venue in the Northern Virginia/MD area.

As for your colors, dresses etc. with your wedding only eight months away your wedding day will be upon you before you know it. Choose colors that you like and then go from there.

Good Luck

DC metro is really expensive. I may be jadded because I’m spending a lot more on my wedding, but when I was first starting and didn’t have my budget, it was clear I couldn’t do it for under 25K… I don’t say this to be mean, only that you might need to consider upping the budget or not doing the wedding in DC metro…

I would say don’t worry too much about fitting around other people’s schedule. People expet to get a hotel and travel for a wedding or they wont come.

What about someone’s backyard with a tent and maybe some heaters?! 50 people would fit easily.

@classyashley:  I had the same reaction! UGH

The DC area is ridiculous expensive.  Have you looked into Paradise Springs Winery?  I don’t know their cost, but it’s a gorgeous setting (http://www.paradisespringswinery.com/reserve.html), but I don’t know their cost.  It has the barn feel you’re going for, though!

Will your guests be renting cars?  You could look closer to Charlottesville, since there are tons of gorgeous options down there.  Mrs. Mink (one of the Blogger Bees) is from C-ville, and could probably help with ideas if your PM her!

Don’t panic! I organised my whole wedding in 9 months! You can do it. Just make a list of what needs doing by when and try to follow it.

@Mint2BMrsB: The first thing I would do is make a list of what needs to be done and prioritize it!  Make a list of things that need to be done by the end of March, the end of April, etc.  I found that worked the best for me.  Then print it out and hang it on your fridge or somewhere you will see it.

@lealorali:  I’m also an upstate NY bride.  I was just curious where exactly your wedding is.  We are getting married at the Franklin Plaza in Troy, NY.

Despite what it says on my account, I’m a NOVA bride as well. I live about ten minutes from Dulles Airport, and can almost guarantee you won’t find anything reasonably priced within your budget if you stay close to the city. Maybe think about western loudoun county? It’s cheaper, and about 30-40 minutes to the airport.

If you like wineries, Bluemont Vineyard is gorgeous (and on a clear day you can see DC! It’s THAT high up a mountain). Reasonably priced, and I’ve had several friends get married there. They loved it.

We are having an intimate wedding at a B&B, with about 30 people. This place has reasonable prices, if you are willing to have a smaller guest list.
