- Wedding: May 2015
Ok… so it’s just about 8 months until our wedding and I’ll list everything we’ve completed so far:
1) Booked a ‘ceremony’ venue for $1,000 with the option of using it as a reception site as well for another $1,750. Because Fiance & MOB wanted a date secured and we all liked this place. But see below
2) My mom’s boyfriend’s daughter is a photographer (a good one) and he has offered to pay for her services but I haven’t heard anything from her, she hasn’t taken engagement photos and there is no contract (she’s fine with their relationship, so it’s not a rebellion)
3) I’ve THOUGHT about wedding colors, dresses, centerpieces and whatnot, but have not actually done/bought/booked anything else!
Ceremony Site: They were really accomidating and said we don’t have to decide if we want to do the reception until 8 months prior. That was 2 months ago, when we thought our budget was WAY different than what it is right now. We had a big sit down talk and discussed spending $15,000 on a wedding vs a house, and chose to save it for a house. Now, at $7,000 for a wedding budget and a venue that costs $1,000 (no chairs included) for the ceremony + $1,750 for reception (no tables, chairs, anything included and you MUST have a tent) we’re totally screwed. Plus, the wedding coordinator just left and we’ve been put in touch with an ‘equine manager’… I tried rolling with it and asking her about previous setups (tents/caterers) and she was completely clueless.
I’ve been searching in the NoVA area for the past two months, I live four hours south of where we’re having the wedding (somewhere near Dulles Airport, Virginia because over half of the wedding will be flying in) and I can’t find time to get up to visit anymore places. I’ve been on so many boards and websites looking for a better venue. I’ve searched B&B, vineyards, parks… there isn’t anything in our budget at this point.
A dream place would be a garden or a forest grove, with mountain views and a place for my smaller wedding guest list (~ 50 at the moment) to sit, eat, dance. Maybe a pretty barn or something… but I’m having nightmares that it’s days before the wedding and we still haven’t found a venue. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated! Or if anyone knows of an awesome venue in the Northern Virginia/MD area that is within driving distance from dulles airport, that would be great!
