So 2011 has been a train wreck of epic proportions. Where do I begin?
Thursday night SO and I had another epic fight. I believe I posted it on the Relationships board, but can’t say for sure. Friday (January 7 for those keeping score), the president of my company called an “emergency corporate meeting” and promptly told all of us that they were shutting the doors. 15 good people were put out of work that day.
That night, we got a call at 3:00 in the morning from a hysterical friend who was sitting in her driveway. She thinks she caught her best friend and husband together in a compromising position. We were dealing with that until about 5:00 am.
Sunday morning, we got news that a close family friend was taken to the emergency room. We were on our way to the hospital and were told to sit tight for a couple of hours. It was thought that it would be better if we waited until it had calmed down, and there were less people there. (We aren’t family – as close as you get, but not technically family.) About 2 hours later, he was being prepped for emergency surgery and passed away.
Monday, GA got hit by a freak snowstorm. We were all snowed in Monday and Tuesday, which meant no trip to the Unemployment office for this Bee. SO finally was able to get his work car out of the driveway on Wednesday (after fishtailing on the way up), and promptly went off the road and into a ditch less than a mile from home. He’s fine – the only thing wounded is his pride.
Viewing was Friday (and subsequently the widow and dearly departed’s 40th wedding anniversary), funeral was Saturday, and on Sunday, the touch screen went out on my phone. No QWERTY keyboard, which means I could only answer the phone and dial the last person I had dialed.
Ummmmmm…let’s see. I think that just about covers it. I’ve failed the Valentine’s day challenge, but only because I was trying to point out the importance of pre-planning to SO.
On a positive note, I did get the green light to start buying small stuff for the wedding…makes sense to him… 😉

Hugs to you
don’t you wish that sometimes we could just live in a bubble so nothing bad can ever happen to us.

WOW that is a lot of bad stuff. The only thing I can think of to say is to keep a positive outlook, even in the face of all the negative energy around you. The more positive your thinking, the more you expect things to start turning around, the better things will become. Maybe losing your job will help you to find the courage to start your own business or follow a path you otherwise wouldn’t have. My condolences on your loss. It sounds like you are surrounded by loved ones in this difficult time.

Ah I am sorry 🙁 Hopefully you have gotten all the yucky stuff out of the way and can now make room for the good stuff to move in. I am so sorry about the loss of your family friend 🙁 Hugs!

Very sorry to hear all this and my sympathies for your loss. Yuck. I think its safe to say you’ve filled your quota so like missfireslayer said, make room for the good stuff to move in! I’m also with poppyseeds and am becoming more and more of a believer in the law of attraction/benefits of positive thinking.
Sounds like you have lots to look forward to with the go-ahead for wedding shopping. Enjoy!

@forforever: I totally agree with the law of attraction.
OP: if you are into books a good one about the law of attraction, is called “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne!

Thanks for the kind words. I have an interview tomorrow with a copmany in the same industry I was in, and I’m so stoked. It’s 9.1 miles from home (versus 51 where I was working before). Positive vibes…positive vibes!! 🙂
