Three weeks ago, I started having these stabbing pains in the right side of my abdomen. They got worse and worse and I finally ended up in the ER. I was admitted to the hospital. After a CT, x-ray, pelvic ultrasound and colonoscopy, the doctor couldn’t figure out what was wrong. So, off I was sent.
The pain continued to get worse, so I called the doctor that was treating me and he said go back to the ER. So, I went back and had another CT. Nothing. He told me to have a HIDA scan to check my gallbladder. It was normal. He said he was going to treat me for irritable bowel syndrome. Uh, hello, how about doing an ultrasound and/or endoscopy? I made an appointment with a GI specialist….that’s this coming Monday.
This week the pain has just gotten worse and worse. I went back to the ER on Wednesday (different hospital this time…Hopkins). I finally got the ultrasound. It showed dilation of the intrahepatic biliary duct and the common bile duct…no stones though. The ER doctor didn’t know what that meant though. UGH! He gave me Nexium and pain killers to get me through until Monday.
I just can’t take it anymore. I can’t sleep. Food causes pain…even fat-free food. What if the GI doctor can’t find anything wrong? My FI’s stepdad is a surgeon and says he would have already taken my gallbladder out. Unfortunately, he’s all the way in Colorado. I haven’t been to work since Tuesday because the pain is so bad. I’m afraid my boss is going to be PISSED when I get back. Granted, she’s a doctor, but still….I can’t do my job when I’m all loopy on pain killers, you know? I just feel really helpless and am getting really depressed by it all. 🙁
