So I’m *hoping* I’ll be engaged within the next few months, bf says it’s just a matter of saving up for a certain something. So I’ve been distracting myself by trying to pick out what I would want, so I can start dropping hints! My dream ring would be a big solitaire oval cut diamond on a petite rosegold pave band (think Blake Lively). Unfortunately I don’t think the words “big diamond” fit into our budget, so I’m looking for a compromise.
After pouring over these boards and every retailer website I can find, I’ve come up with 2 ideas I’m torn between:
1) a .6ct(ish) oval cut (high quality) diamond set in a rose gold halo setting with pave band; or
2) a 1.5ct eqv oval cut moissanite, set as a solitaire with a rose gold pave band.
These both fall in the same price range. I think that moissanite is very pretty, my only hesitation is I’m afraid people will think it’s “fake”. (For the record, I don’t think it’s fake!)On the flip side, many of my friends have made comments in the past about how tacky halos are. I don’t think so at all, but I don’t want them hating on my ring when the big day finally comes. I know I shouldn’t care what people think, but alas.
Which would you choose?? Also please if anyone has rings similar in size/design to those described, especially oval cut moissanite, please post some pics!

I’m not a huge fan of halo’s but if you love them who cares what your friends think, it’s YOURS to wear forever. Mine is a diamond but similar to the Blake style. If you love the halo look the halo under the diamond like mine is always an option!

Depends on what you prefer, size or color.
A high quality diamond that’s .60 with a halo the ring will look larger. But the center stone itself will still look small.
A 1.5 carat moissy will be larger but may not be as “bright” as the diamond because it’s not a diamond. What kind of moissy is it? F1? Classic? Brilliant? OEC?

I will never buy diamonds again. They have very little resale value and imo just aren’t worth too much other than the stigma attached to them. I’d much prefer a moissanite that looks similar, sparkles more, stays clean longer, cheaper and will last a lifetime. Pick which one you will be happy with forever ๐

hillputaringonit : Your ring is gorgeous!! Very Blake! Sadly I think a diamond that massive is way out his price range ๐ญ I wouldn’t say I love halos, but I certainly don’t hate them. And I think they would help give the illusion of a bigger diamond, since the main stone would have to be on the smaller end of the spectrum…

whyiotter : This is a very personal choice but I voted moissanite, I care more about the overal look of the ring than whether or not it’s a diamond (and btw, did you know that moissanites are both stronger and more sparkly than diamonds?!). So I’d go for your dream ring.
Here are some oval moissy rings which I think are stunning, have a look at the videos:

I would go with the better quality diamond vs the bigger moissonite

pinkcorsage : Totally valid points, the one I’ve been looking at is a super premium moissanite from Brilliant Earth because I really liked the BE setting. But I think if I went through a different retailer, I would opt towards F1 or an otherwise enhanced stone.
raeann1984 : Thanks for your opinion! The price difference really is insane. For a stone the same size, I could afford a dingy, spotted diamond for the same price of a beautiful shiny clear moissy. It’s that stigma that’s getting me though! It definitely helps hearing people are pro-moissanite though!

I would go diamond if it’s excellent quality a .60 if cut well (check bow tie on that oval and make sure it’s minimal) will have a lot of bling. I LOVE ovals in halos and rose gold will be so dreamy.
Also look at Lauren B and their videos comparing oval diamonds to oval moissanite in their opinion ovals are hard to replicate meaning they look least like a diamond. I mention this because you brought up the “fake” look concern.
This style is so stunning

valintine : Umm so that is exactly what I’ve been looking for… ๐ I’ve never come across The True Gem in my search, but the second video link is just what I’ve been dreaming of! And the prices are even lower than what I’ve been looking at. Thanks so much for sharing!!!!
allthingsthatsparkle : I agree! That is insanely pretty, do you have any idea where that setting is from?

I would choose the smaller diamond if I had to pick just one. I have both diamonds and moissy. Diamonds stay cleaner longer/are easier to get clean, b/c moissy gets a rainbow film that needs to be maintained with scrubbing/silver polish. I also prefer the crisp sparkle and luster of diamonds over moissy. A well cut and polished diamond outshines a moissy imo (when I compare the stones I have). I do love my moissanite jewelry though, b/c it is a fun stone with such personality and you get a lotta bling for your buck.

The poll is currently 11 to 10…. I guess dilemma is justified!
GemmaBella : Thanks for that input, I didn’t know that about maintaining a moissy, something to consider…and good advice coming from someone who has both! How often would you say you need to clean your moissy to keep it nice and sparkly?
