Moissanite all the way, but I’m biased. Hehe. I think you’ll be happier with more finger coverage, and I cannot stress how gorgeous moissanites are irl.

My advice is to get what you want the first time. After having two wedding sets I have decided when I get my next ring it will be 100% what I want and love I will not settle. As far as friends go you are the one wearing the ring not your friends. An engagement ring is not to show off to others it’s something that is supposed to be significant to you and your other half.

allthingsthatsparkle :  it’s actually just an eBay ring.

You can easily get this delicate halo replicated and even add diamonds down the shank if you wanted the total bling.

Good luck ! Tough choice for sure

I usually pop it into the sonic cleaner everytime I wear it, b/c it keeps the stain at bay once I remove it w/ silver polish. The stain on mine didn’t show up right away, it took a few months to mainfest around the table and crown facets. It was stubborn though to remove. It irks me, lol. I think the stone is a little too expensive to require such manual labor to get clean. Some people don’t have the issue or mind the maintainence though. Also, at the larger sizes (over half carat really) the moissy can look a little plasticky in certain lighting situations and that bothers me. That is what I mean by preferring the diamond’s lustre. I have worn and analyzed both stones for years, so I am picky (probably too picky!). All that being said I still enjoy them b/c I love to collect gems and when they are squeaky clean and in the right light they are gorgeous pieces.

I think it depends on your attitude towards moissanite. If you are comfortable with people knowing it isn’t a diamond, then I think it is a really great option. If you plan to pass it off as a diamond, then you should do so with the knowledge that some people can tell the difference. I know this has been debated over and over, but I ordered an unbranded 7.5mm h&a moissanite from mco and compared to my 1.7carat oval diamond, the differences were obvious to me.

whyiotter :  Moissanite actually repels dirt/stays cleaner longer than diamonds. What Gemma was referencing is the “stain” that some Bees have reported on moissy. I’ve never experienced this with any of my moissanites (it seems to be a small minority, possibly related to hard water), but I understand it’s an easy fix — you just polish it away with a silver cleaning cloth. So not really a factor to consider, but worth knowing about!

whyiotter :  I vote moissy 100%! This is coming from a former diamond owner, seller, and gemology student. I could go on and on about the insane markup of diamonds and the very fair prices of moissy, but I’m sure you don’t want this to become one of THOSE kinds of threads. Lol go with what you like! I find that if budget is a concern and a bigger look is what you want, a moissy is a no-brainer! Why settle when you can have the exact ring that you want without feeling like you got ripped off? That’s just my $0.02. Good luck! It’ll be beautiful no matter what! 😉

    Moissanite.  Without a doubt.

Ooo and one more option, moissaniteco has a bunch of oval rings as well and most likely they’re even more affordable than True Gem, though I’m not sure how the quality compares… I particularly like these settings:

I’ve become slightly obsessed with ovals lately 😂

I have a 9×6 oval shaped harro gem moissanite in their crushed ice cut. It looks more diamond like than the forever one ovals due to the faceting and slightly skinner shape. So definitely look into other moissanite companies other than Charles and colvard. Mine is being set right now but once it’s finished it will look like the last pic

Setting aside what friends and family might think, which stone type do YOU love more? Do you want more finger coverage, or more sparkle? Do you want a more clear stone, or one that throws more color?

    Things worth finding out:

    1) your finger size, and how each size tone looks on your finger size (with and without halo)

    2) does your Fiance have strong feelings about diamond vs. moissy? (his opinion should count more than your friends)

    3) do you want everyone to assume you’re wearing a diamond?

    4) have you seen a moissy in person?

full disclosure: I’m camp diamond, because I prefer the way they sparkle (especially in a step cut, since I have an EC) over moissy, which is totally more “blingy”, but in a way that I find to be too loud. I also can’t deal with much color, but that’s just me – some people really like it, and there are threads on here about warm diamonds, too, which are also beautiful.

    you do you, girl.

If you want a diamond then look in the G -I color and VS1 -SI1 range. Anything above this you are then paying for something that you can’t see. Inspect VS2 and SI1 gems for eye visible inclusions. These guidelines hold true for moissanite too. Cut is king in clear gems. Try to see both diamond and moissanite ovals because your stone needs to please your eye. Check the vendors trade in value or resale value since you may want to change stones or settings in the future.

I voted the smaller real diamond because it sounds like you prefer diamond over moissanite. The halo will really make the diamond appear much bigger than it is, and you have small fingers so will still get a good amount of finger coverage with the smaller stone + halo. This video by Lauren B really shows the magic of halos:

Set in a halo, your .60 diamond will likely end up having about the same finger coverage of a 1.5-2 carat oval set as a solitaire. Also, I think ovals look AMAZING in halos.
