Really it depends if you feel you will be happy with it not being a diamond. If that irks you at all, I would go with the diamond/halo for sure. If you are ok with it not being a diamond and that is not a concern, moissanite is a great choice. For me it did not bother me, and I was able to get the setting and look I wanted way under budget. Just make sure you feel confident enough on rocking something other than a diamond so you have no regrets down the road!

My sister has a 2 carat moissanite engagement ring, it’s the only moissanite I’ve ever seen in person. It’s a pretty stone but it doesn’t look like a diamond. They are very colorful and rainbowy. My sister loves it so I am happy for her. Personally I am glad to have a diamond because the way a moissanite sparkles and behaves would bother me. So I voted for the diamond.

whyiotter :  Unless your ok with people sometimes knowing it’s not a real diamond I would get the diamond and halo it. People can sometimes tell big Moissys are not a diamond but they think cz. But more know about moissy now. Some bees posted recently about being called out at work because of the different sparkle. So beware of that. Usually they won’t say that to your face so no worries. Moissys are gorgeous but there will be judgment because it’s a diamond simulant. Moissanite can get a stain that takes carefull scrubbing with silver polish to get it off without damaging the gold setting. Ive been lucky no stain yet. There price is good especially ebay but there are negatives but they are gorgeous.Congrats on your coming engagement bee.

I have a small oval diamond and I love it SO much. I am not much a fan of moissy in person, although I’ve seen some beautiful rings on the bee! I just don’t like the rainbow-yness of it – while my ring is incredibly cut and sparkly in a different way.

In My opinion, ovals look best in halos. It’s such a classic and beautiful shape, and the halo really adds that elegance to it. I personally would choose a diamond over a moissanite any day. It’s not that I don’t love moissanite, I do. But I’ve always been a diamond kind of girl. I actually traded my diamond for a moissanite before and ended up selling it because I missed my diamond. It just didn’t feel right to me.

But both are beautiful stones in their own right, so do what you think is best πŸ™‚ As for your friends, who cares what they think! They were probrbaly talking about some huge gaudy engagement rings with halos on them. A .6 oval is the perfect size for a halo. I’m sure when they see your ring they’ll swoon….

I vote diamond!!! Based on your post I think you are already fearing the stigma of having a “fake” (your words ). It will always be on your mind. The diamond your thinking about sounds beautiful and not actually that small, I think you will be surprised. A 1.5 moissy will certainly attract some attention but sadly….is it the kind of attention and questions you want??? Probably not. As for the advice your getting on “resale” value, Do bees actually consider this when getting l their ering….that seems bizarre to me πŸ™‚

whyiotter :  A .60 is hardly small in my opinion! Especially with a halo. It will really look classy and gorgeous. Can’t wait to see what you decide on!

whyiotter :  I think you should look into Harro gem ovals moissanite! As PP bellabee16 mentioned.. I LOVE LOVE LOVE ovals, and if I were to choose if I was getting an oval, I’d go for a larger oval and that would be Harro Gem Crush ice Oval moissanite! They look more diamond like then the regular F1 Moissanites!! By far the best ones! Here are a few videos of their Ovals on their Instagram page: enjoy πŸ™‚

    Diamond 100%

is there only one option for diamond? Where’s your Fiance buying from?

i ask as I think it’s a good idea for him to ask on the pricescope forum what’s the best diamond with specs you want that he can get for his budget. They come up with some great recommendations.

I voted diamond, because out of diamond and moissy that’s what I would choose. I don’t have a diamond as a central stone and never wanted one, I have a central ruby with a diamond halo. Have you considered other, cheaper central stones such as sapphires or morganite? I would always pick a naturally created stone rather than a lab created stone, which is what moissy is, but that is just my opinion. If I couldn’t ensure that the diamonds available were conflict free, I would get a natural white sapphire if I wanted a clear stone.
