@cbee:I think there IS an “obesity epidemic” because America is getting more decentralized-people are more lonely and the internet doesn’t let people realize they are struggling for human connection.

I read this book: http://obesefromtheheart.com/about/

and it really helped me with my eating disorder. A lot of people don’t realize with the level of media we all get, and how much it really affects us. And a lot of diet programs don’t work because they don’t get to the core of the problem.

Anyway–sorry to threadjack, I am just particularly sensitive about that phrase.

@Catherine:Agreed, weight bashing goes both ways and is very hurtful no matter what.

Are the people who create these posts trolls or regular posters?  I haven’t noticed this, but I haven’t been on much lately.

@Catherine: I was not equating skinny people with people who are dying. I did not intend to bash someone for being skinny. I dont care what size someone is or how much they weigh. I am sorry that my comment was misunderstood and if I hurt anyones feelings…it was not my intention. “skinny” bashing is just as bad as “fat” bashing.

There are instances of abuse on both extremes. Don’t think women who are thin don’t get crap for it all the time. I’m here to tell you they do.

I’m pretty sure the main point of this thread has nothing to do with whether or not skinny people get bashed too.  Let the OP vent without the “poor me, I am so skinny” sh*t for once!!!  If you want to complain about how tough it is to be thin, start your own thread.  Thank you.

I think people are merely pointing out that it happens in both extremes and it shouldn’t happen in either.

Which is fine, but not the point of this thread.

@bestbuddies: It didn’t offend me, I just thought it came off as a bit insensitive and thought I’d point in out in case you didn’t realize that. If it wasn’t your intention, that’s fine. I totally agree that skinny bashing and fat bashing is equally bad.

@heathaah: I don’t think anyone is trying to turn the focus to skinny bashing. I was simply pointing out what seemed to be some pretty harsh comments.

Weight bashing is weight bashing… you coud turn OP’s original comments around and it totally applies to any women who feels discriminated against because of her weight. You can’t help how you feel, but you also can’t assume the feelings of others are any less important that your own. (‘You’ in the general sense)…

… And, the word ‘bashing’ totally doesn’t make sense to me anymore! 🙂

I never said anyone’s feelings were any less important than anyone else’s.  I am saying the comments about how skinny people get criticism too are not relevant to this thread and not helpful in any way.

I don’t see any problem with @catherine pointing out that someone else’s comments on this thread could have been offensive.  There were also prior comments on this thread about how the skinny-bashing threads get shut down, but the fat-bashing threads do not.

@MissComicBook: I think the issue here is that neither skinny nor fat people would like to be bashed.  However, only one of those two groups was targeted in the posts that were up this morning:(

Well, I stick to my point.  Skinny bashing is not the topic here, and comments about how tough it is to be skinny are not helpful.  They are just plain obnoxious when posted on a thread like this.  Obviously there are people who agree with me.

On threads about being overweight, you ALWAYS see the “I am 5’2″ size 00 and I could totally lose 10 lbs!!”  That is OBNOXIOUS.

On threads about being too skinny, you NEVER see “I am 250 lbs and HATE how difficult it is being this thin!”

GET IT???  Now move on and start your own “I hate being skinny” thread.  If you want, I will start it for you.

If you want to comment here, please support the OP and other posters.  Do not comment about how hard it is to be thin.

The topic ‘I’m utterly sick of the weight bashing!’ is closed to new replies.
