I just forwarded the link to this thread along to Mrs. Penguin.  That sounds shady!

I had a scammer message me in my inbox as well, but it was a different story. Those guys will try anything!

I got the exact same email in response to my wedding dress classified ad.

It’s a total scam. No real bride is going to purchase a dress sight unseen with no questions asked!

That is DEFINITELY a scam.  The next stage is this:  She will send you a cashier’s check for 2-3 times the price of the dress, then say “oops, can you refund the difference?”  You’ll send her $500 or $1000 or however much the “refund” should be, but then you’ll find out that her check bounced, and you’re out the money you sent the scammer.

A scammer tried this on some student tutors at my university this year — she claimed she wanted to pay them up front for tutoring her kids, then sent them a check with an extra 0 on it and asked them to refund the difference for her “mistake.”  Fortunately they were smart enough not to try and cash the checks or send her any money.  It turned out she lived in another state and didn’t even have any kids!

i’ve JUST gotten something like that for my craigslist post on my dress, asked me how much is my final price, do i still have my dress, what forms of payment do i accept…and then when i replied, they just said, ok give me your full name and address so i can send you a check. i can’t imagine ANY real brides (or real CONSUMERS) would buy ANYTHING with no questions asked about the product…

Hhhmmm, I got an email over the weekend about a dress I’m trying to sell on OnceWed, it wasn’t exactly like this, but similar.  I wonder if it’s a scam?  Yikes!  I’m going to be super careful either way.

Sounds super shady. If they gave you a full name and location I would try to look them up and see if they exist or if others have gotten similar e-mails.
