Hoping you can help me with this one….
I came to the USA on a fiancee visa, so I’ll need to apply for Adjustment of status (AOS) after getting married in order to become a permanent resident. Well, we got married a couple days ago and when applying for our marriage license I was told I couldn’t hyphenate my last name because they couldn’t “break” my current name. I wanted to change my name to Martinez-Fernandez so I could keep my last name and also take my husband’s; instead, I had to change it to Fernandez and Im not happy about it.
For now I only have my passport as ID and I already applied for a SSN, which I’ll have to take to my SSA office so they can change the name on it. I don’t have any other ID, no bank accounts, drivers license…. anything!
So I guess what I want to know is, now that Im married and have only one last name, can I change it to what I originally wanted?
