This is so me. I’m terrible. It’s kind of all I can think about. “What else can we stop doing so that we have money for our house?” haha, Darling Husband doesn’t quite see it my way. In fact, the idea of being homeowners scares the crap out of him. He wants it, but big decisions and responsibility don’t come easy to him.

So… I spend my time looking at houses online, finding neighborhoods I think would be good for us. We’ll be moving out of state to buy a home (it’s too damn expensive here!), so we need to do a lot of research. Also we’re looking into jobs and such in the area– we know it can take forever to land a job, so we’re starting to look 6 months before we plan to move. We can always find a short term rental if need be.

This is totally how we work, though. I’m always excited for “the next step,” while he’s terrified. My excitement usually brings him over to my side. haha

@b00kbug:  i believe that throwing money away for rent is worse then paying a bit more for mortgage etc.. The longer you wait the longer you will be paying for the house.

I find it reasonable when a couple lives with one set of parents and the rent is staying in the family but to rent and try to save on top seams very wasteful.

I totallyy understand! We’ve been looking at houses for a little over 10 months. We have all the money, although putting down more is always better, we just can’t seem to find what we want! Or when we do it has a contract or there’s a structural issue, ughhh! The ones I like aren’t in the area we want and there’s no houses for sale in the area I want that are big/nice enough. I literally check the listings twice a day lol Hopefully something comes up soon!

Hmm. This community development thing sounds fishy. Was it sponsored by a particular bank or builder? If they pulled your credit score/report, that’s considered a “hard pull”, which will lower your scores for many months. How far in the future are you looking to seriously look/close etc? If it’s within a few months, this did you a disservice. For hard pulls, you have a period of 30 days to shop around at different banks before you start taking extra hits on your credit scores from the extra pulls (which you definitely should – good scores are good scores, and you will be eligible everywhere). A lot of banks pull for pre-approval and right before closing (to make sure things are still on the up-and-up and you didn’t default on anything/go on a mass spending spree while things were being processed). If those dates are more than 30 days apart, you guessed it, double whammy.
