I need help. I am currently in talks with dressilyme about a lace dress with a cathedral train. I want it to be bustled because, well, it has a fricken cathedral train! How else can I dance all night!? Anyways, they are telling me that they cannot bustle it because a button cannot support the weight of the lace. Understandable if you bustle it in that fashion.
My question is this– let’s say that I come back with three other bustle styles and they say no, are they right? Is it impossible to bustle a lace dress or could a seamstress here do it for me once the dress came?
Thanks for any help or advice!

@takemyhand: I’m sure you can bustle a lace dress.
You’d probably have to do an under bustle (where there are lettered ties underneath the back of the dress and you can tie them together to pull up the dress).
It sounds like the only bustle they are thinking of is having one button on the back and having the skirt come up as an over bustle.
I’m not explaining it well, but I’m pretty sure you can bustle a lace dress.

You absolutely can. My sister had a lace dress and had a gorgeous bustle on it. It was definitely an underbustle like PP said, but it’s doable.

@KatNYC2011: Okay that is what I was thinking too! Glad to know I’m not crazy. I just wanted to be able to say “well can’t you bustle it with ties?” before I respond to their email, knowing that if they can’t a seamstress likely could.
