We are having a pseudo-destination wedding–it’s a destination for us in that we don’t live there and are planning from afar! We have already booked the church, and are flying out this weekend to look at reception venues (and hopefully book one).
The problem? Apparently none of these venues want to have our wedding, based on how they never answer the phone or return my messages. I started calling places the beginning of last week, and still haven’t been able to get a hold of anyone at one of our top choices! One place, I was told last week that so-and-so would call me back that afternoon, waited until today to call again, and the girl was like “oh yeah, I have you right here on the list to call.” The only place that has been really helpful and responsive was actually our first choice going in to this.
Is this common at banquet halls? I feel really hesitant to have my wedding somewhere that I couldn’t even get a hold of anyone so I could visit.

Probably not common, but now is the beginning of wedding season – so maybe they were busy? I would be pretty upset though if I was from out of town and none of the facilities getting back to me!
Maybe you’ll really like the first place you go to. Good luck!
EDIT:: I should add that when we were looking for venues, I did not bother going to any place that couldn’t be bothered to call me back. Luckily, I heard back from a bunch of places and acutally picked a venue that a differnent venue suggested!

I had very similar problems like you, planning from afar.
My rule of thumb was if they can not even give me the time of day when they don’t have my money yet. How will they be when they do have my money?
For me, those venues (unless I super duper loved them) were off the list!
And seriously unless they had a really good reason for it they will most likely be like this for the remainder of the planning. You do not need the added stress.

I agree. I just crossed three places that never responded off my list.
I don’t need the stress!
