I say in line, but I’m originally from Pittsburgh.  When I moved to NYC I noticed everyone here says on line and yes it drives me CRAZY!!

I have NEVER heard on line – that’s weird and would bug the F out of me!

I am the grammar nazi though!

I say “in line” (grew up in CA, seems to be the thing here). My fiance says “queue”, because his stepdad is from South Africa and it rubbed off on him, even though he grew up in DC.

From my experience, “in line” is used in the US, whereas most Europeans use “on line.”  Similar to Americans calling garbage “trash” and people in Europe calling it “rubbish.”

The only time I hear “on-line” is when they’re talking about the internet.

I thought this would have something to do with the web, LOLz.  I’ve never heard “on line” anywhere I’ve traveled!

Looks like I started a trend tonight Smile

hmm, maybe it is a NYC thing because I’m pretty sure I say both.  I actually never even thought about it or that other people don’t say on line.

Yeah, I say in line when referring to standing in a line.  But on line for using the internet.
