I have loved lace sleeves since I saw Nicole Richies gown.

I got a lace coat to wear over my spaghetti strap dress. I’m thrilled with it!

No, the lace coat is from an entirely separate dress, and it was an extremely lucky find under extremely lucky circumstances! I got my gown at a Brides Against Breast Cancer event. I really liked the lace dress with the spaghetti straps, but I also wanted something with more of a sleeve, and my mom and I were debating whether we should try to add sleeves to it. I also tried on a ton of other gowns, for comparison.

The lace coat was part of one of the other gowns I tried, paired with a simple satin strapless ballgown. I tried it on and my mom loved it, but I wasn’t sold on the underneath part (I knew I’d be taking the coat off at some point, and I really didn’t want strapless.) So I suggested to Mom, “Let me put this on over the other dress just to give us an idea of how it would look if we added sleeves.”

When I put them on together, they looked amazing. The lace harmonizes really well! So we asked the BABC ladies if they would allow us to separate the coat from the other dress and buy both pieces from them. No way would a regular bridal shop have ever done that, but the BABC ladies felt that they’d be able to still sell the strapless ball gown on its own to someone who wanted a simpler style. So, they let me buy one-and-a-half dresses, and I lucked out!

I’m having sleeves added to my strapless dress- I intended to just go ahead with the strapless at first, but as it turned out, I was REALLY uncomfortable in it (I just don’t wear strapless dresses, ever, so even with the help of a good bra, I felt droopy and sad in it).  My sleeves will be drapey and come to a few inches below my shoulder, sort of between a cap and a regular short sleeve.  I’ll post pics after my next fitting, they’re being made now 🙂

Jealous over here.  I want lace sleeves but I can’t find anything to try on and I’m already over budget 🙁

I’m new but I also love lace sleeves! And my dress. Second one I tried on, no alterations needed, I got to take it home and I don’t have to wear a bra- woo!
