Both great choices – you can’t go wrong!  Would both places be for a Friday day time event?  Or could you do the Yachting Center on a different day/time?

I completely agree with you.  Oceancliff feels much more elegant but NYC is much more of a fun party vibe – though you could make either one exactly how you wanted it.  So I think you need to consider the atmosphere you are going for.  I knew that I wanted more of a Newport mansion feel so I opted for the day time Oceancliff wedding.  Then we are doing a harbor cruise and my friends are going out in Newport after for drinking and dancing.  But if you wanted your wedding to be more of a party, I think an evening reception at NYC would be better.  It might be better for people traveling from NJ too.  And then you are right downtown Newport if you want to go out after.  I like the NYC option a lot and I do think your money will probably go further there.  The Oceancliff gets expensive pretty fast because they have a minimum food and drink purchase as well as a site fee.

The minimums are too bad, but definitely calculate things out ahead of time to make sure that you are comfortable with the food/drink prices + the site fee + the ceremony fee + tax and gratuity (this ends up being several thousand dollars added onto your total!).  It did end up being more than we would have thought in the end – but I think this is true with planning a wedding anywhere.

Our wedding will be on a Saturday in September during the day.  The schooner is a nice option if you do a day wedding – very Newport!  It has a discounted rate as well if you are having a wedding at the OC.  And you can BYOB…not sure if there are any hidden charges if you do this (bartender?) because we haven’t heard of any yet.  You can also have catering do drinks and snacks on the boat if you want.

We haven’t planned any transportation for our guests.  I’m not sure if we will do that because it’s likely that people will be staying in different hotels spread around Newport/Middletown.  Most transporation options charge extra for multiple stops.  Honestly, I don’t think we’ll end up doing any transportation, but I do think it’s great to do it if you can.

Oops, I meant to say that the minimums aren’t too bad!
