So my wedding is less than 6 months away at this point and all thats left to get are invitations and general decor. I’m going to tell you my color palette and a bit about the wedding and I’d love to hear your ideas!
Date: October 6th, 2012 in Connecticut on the water, so the weather should be a bit of an Indain Summer feel.
Colors: Navy, champagne, and a light rose pink.
Feel: its an evening wedding that is more formal than not, but not exactly black tie. The guys will be wearing khaki colored dress pants with navy blazers (the classic brooks brothers look)
Venue: its an old mansion on a large field, on the ocean, with gorgeous gardens on either side. it is on the smaller side for mansions though. 135 person wedding
Bridesmaids dresses are already purchased, they are knee length one shoulder, navy satin. very chic. Bouquets will be pale pale pink mums in almost a pom pom shape with navy ribbon around the stems.
The venue makes me feel like the movie “the secret garden” meets great gatsby. I thought a garden theme would work, but i’m not interested in spending much on flowers for decor so that wouldn’t work. I’m picturing lots of off white candles on the tables around a center tall pillar candle that is in a tall champagne vase. with the pale pink flowers, or just their petals, strewn about the table. Navy table clothes.
My wedding planner and bridal party keeps telling me i have to pic a theme and i do think it would make my final steps easier, but i’m torn.

I think you should go with the whole great gatsby theme. You can use parasols instead of mass amounts of flowers like this pic:
Try image searching great gatsby wedding for some more inspiration pics 🙂

@Steampunk Angel: Love the parasols idea however we’re dining inside and i just feel like the dresses we’ll be wearing (bride and bridesmaids) are too modern. maybe i transform the great gatsby theme into a modern day great gatsby? which i guess just translates into an old money feel lol that should be fun on a budget. I love the inspiration pics i see when i search great gatsby its just the fashion doesn’t match with what we’ve already purchased, so maybe a modern version is the way to go.
here is the bridesmaid dress in Navy.and they will all have a crystal and pearl cuff that i bought them on ruelala and champagne shoes.

I like the modern day Great Gatsby. I think once you read your description you already have a theme/feel for your wedding. Using Great Gatsby and Secret Garden details will make it all fit together. Being that you have so much already I would probably stick to exactly what you described and I think it will all tie in to create a theme.
We started with Rustic Elegance because we are from NY/NJ and moved (and having the wedding) in Vermont. And I am just going with classy rustic details and not having a completely defined theme but in the end I think it will display exactly the feel I want.

@VermontBride13: I agree completely. My bridesmaids that have already been married and my wedding planner, along with both moms (his and mine) all seem to be looking for me to say a one word defined theme. I don’t necessarily want people to walk in and say “this is definitely a beach theme”, or a wine theme, or what have you. I just want it to be beautiful and elegant and cohesive and i think we can do that without a specific defined theme so i may just start using modern day great gatsby to satisfy them and keep going on my merry way 🙂
