I’m looking for a little advice/sympathy/I-told-you-so.
Here’s the scoop. Mr. Wonderful and I fell in love with our venue, a small vineyard on the outside of our hometown. In April, we locked in our date with their event planner (June 15, 2013) and have been vigorously planning ever since. Of course, we’ve told lots of people, bought lots of stuff, reserved lots of vendors, etc.
Today, I got an e-mail from our event planner with their 2013 price guidelines. Now, we knew up front that we wouldn’t have the price guidelines doc until a few months after we locked in our date (although, we didn’t think it would be 4 whole months later). I had e-mailed and e-mailed and called asking for it and finally got it today.
We also knew up front that they were going to be make some adjustments to the prices (as 2012 was their first year and she told us up front that they’d have to revisit some things after they had a few weddings/events under their belt). That was all fine and dandy with us – we just knew we needed to build in some “cushion” to our budget in the event the prices changed (and we anticipated they’d be more expensive, not cheaper – obviously).

$10k more expensive!!!
… are you F’ING SH*TTING ME!?
This is more than a 50% increase from the 2012 guidelines. 50%!!!!
So now we either:
– Beg for them to negotiate with us
– Grin and bear it
– Start planning all over again and potentially push back the wedding.
…. admittedly venting. Need help, words of wisdom, etc.
And to answer the obvious question, our contract ONLY locked in the date – not the agreed upon price because we weren’t allowed to do that until the 2013 prices were finalized. We were led to believe they may change some, but never in a million years fathomed they could more than double without any warning.
