My fiancé and I are still in need of an officiant for our wedding in October in New Hope, PA. We are not religious, so we do not want a priest or pastor, but are more spiritual and are looking for someone with an open mind and maybe an all-denominational officiant.
We’d be happy with just a judge or something like that, but my mom is religious and she does want God to be mentioned in there also.
Does anyone have any suggestions for anyone around the New Hope area??

@lmdemberg: I’d ask your wedding co-ordinator, if you have one, or otherwise hunt around on places like Craigslist. Some people have their friends get an online ordination that gives them license to perform weddings, and do it that way. I used to do non-denominational weddings in MD fairly frequently, it wasn’t an easy job when you start to do a lot of them, but as far as a one-off thing, if you have a friend who’s comfortable with public speaking and you all work on the ceremony together, it could go very nicely.

@lmdemberg: i actually found mine online. i googled wedding officiants for my area and i was surprised how many were available. they all had pictures of themselves on their websites and i called them so that i could hear their voice. (two important factors when everyone is looking and listening to them).
the gentleman that i choose was wonderful. his service was not religious. it was very current and a few of my guests even commented how lovely it was. there weren’t many dry eyes. we were very pleased.

If you want a friend or family to do it, consider the Universal Life Church. I’m not sure about your area, but we were married in Michigan, and it’s legal in the entire state (as of 2013). We got some folks ordained online for free, and that was it. It works out well too because you can always have a back-up on hand.

we found a wonderful officiant on wedding wire! Thank you all so much for the wonderful advice!
@CookieCreamCakes: what a great idea to have frinds and family become ordained! I wonder if it’s legal in PA.. I’ll have to check it out 🙂

Hey @lmdemberg! I’m getting married at Holly Hedge in November and am currently looking for an officiant. If you don’t mind me asking – who did you wind up choosing and were you happy with them? This is proving to be one of the more difficult decisions of the whole planning process so any inasght would be extremely helpful!
Thanks in advance!

kg812763: hello! And congrats! We got married at HollyHedge in October and it was a dream come true. We use Alisa Tongg as our officiant and we absolutely loved her. She put together most
perfect, unique ceremony for us and we got so many compliments that it was the best ceremony our guests had ever seen. We were so happy with her and I would recommend her 100%! From
the first time I talked to her I knew! She is on Facebook as Alisa Tongg, Celebrant or her website is: http://www.alisatonggcelebrant.com
