I noticed the breastfeeding thread was closed, and I really wanted to add something…
Ok, so I breast fed for a year. I also supplemented with formula(towards the end, when I didn’t have the milk supply. Never once did I breastfeed in public ( except for in our local mall, which had a parenting room, where many mothers did it). I did have to pump alot while going out, in public restooms, just so I could feed my son. I remember one time, once in west edmonton mall, which was filthy and gross, pumping amongst bacteria, and garbage, just so my son could eat. I could not imagine having to bring him into that washroom to feed him, if I did not have a pump handy.
There are so many times that I wished I could just pop out my boob, and feed him at that moment, as there are not alot of designated pumping areas for breast feeding mothers. The reason I did not just outright breastfeed is because I know exactly how other woman, would have made me feel.
As for the whole’ at least cover up’ notion, I have to agree with that particular bridesmade of caitmarae’s. Would you want to eat under a blanket? It is stuffy, and hot. Not to mention, not all babies are great latchers, so it is nice to see what you are doing.
I would never judge, or make another woman feel particularily ashamed of her, not only legal, but maternal right to feed her child. I say shame on the ladies who feel they have the right to do so, shame on you for making me and others like me feel like we had to sit in a dirty bathroom stall to pump, or worse yet, breastfeed our young. Because no feeling or uncomfortableness, gives anyone the right to tell a woman to use a blanket, cover up, or physically remove herself when feeding her hungry child.
